Sept 2—Henry Hoffman, age 77, 71 Franklin Street, widely known retired painter and paper-hanger of New Bremen, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at Joint Township Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had submitted to major surgery two years ago and since then had been in failing health. Mr. Hoffman learned his trade as a paperhanger and painter from his father and had been engaged in the decorating business for many years before retiring two years ago when he turned the business over to his son, Paul, who had been associated with him. He was born April 7, 1876, in New Bremen, the son of the late Philip and Marie Bisantz Hoffman. On January 30, 1902, he married Helena Kuck who is left to mourn his death along with their six children, Ezra, Los Angeles, California; Paul of New Bremen and Prof. Arnold Hoffman, Raleigh, N.C.; Mrs. Webster (Selma) Geib, Sidney; Mrs. W.E. (Elsie) Hicks, San Francisco, and Mrs. Richard (Helen) Simon, Beaverdam, O. There are ten grandchildren and three brothers, Rev. Fred and Rev. Conrad Hoffman, Cleveland and Daniel Hoffman, Toledo. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1952 when their children and grandchildren joined them in receiving many relatives and friends in honor of the occasion. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church and the Brotherhood. For years he taught in the Sunday School and was a member too, of the Church consistory for some years. Funeral services are arranged for 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Zion Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. L.G. Fritz officiating. Burial will take place in German Protestant cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilberg & Hegemier Funeral Home Friday afternoon and evening and up until 11 o'clock Saturday morning when the body will be removed to the church.
