Additional: Elsie H. Hicks, 86, a resident of the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, 3003 W. Cisco Road, died there Saturday, March 20, 1999, at 9:30 p.m. She was born Oct 3, 1912 in New Bremen, daughter of Henry and Helena (Kuck) Hoffman. On December 25, 1946, she was married to Woodson E. Hicks. He died Jan. 30, 1991. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jack (Mary Frances) Weeden of Ojai, Calif., and Mrs. Carl (Sylvia) Sandberg of Santa Paula, Calif.; a brother Arnold Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Selma Geib of Sidney, and Helen Simon of Bluffton. Two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Hicks was choir director at the Methodist churches in Fostoria and Tallhouse, Calif., for many years and had also been a soloist with the Toledo Opera Co. She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sidney. A music teacher for 36 years, she had taught at Wauseon, Fostoria, Tallhouse, Calif. and Mill Creek Canyon, Calif., retiring in 1986. In keeping with Mrs. Hicks' wishes her body was cremated. Private servies will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were handled by the Cromes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Dorothy Love Life Care Fund.
