Additional: Mrs. Caroline Holtkamp, age 71, 108 West German, New Knoxville, beloved retired first grade teacher of the New Knoxville school, died at 7:30 a.m. today at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Dorsey E. Holtkamp, of Lebanon, Ohio. She had been ill for two months with cancer. Mrs. Holtkamp was born Oct. 6, 1893, in New Knoxville, the daughter of Charles and Anne Lammers Meckstroth. In 1916 she was married to Emil H. Holtkamp who died two years later in 1918. Left to mourn her death are one son, Dr. D. E. Holtkamp, of Lebanon the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Holtkamp, three grandchildren, Kurt, Charles Robert and Michael Robert Holtkamp, Lebanon, four brothers, Jacob of Columbus, Gustave of Orlando, Fla, Dr. Emil, of Sandusky and the Rev. Richard B. Meckstroth, of New Knoxville; three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Fledderjohann, Mrs. Ferd (Ella) Wellman and Mrs. A. F. Hoge, all of New Knoxville. Mrs. Holtkamp received her bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University and her master's degree from the University of Denver, Colo. For 45 years she was employed in teaching, beginning her teaching career in a one-room school in Washington township. Two years ago she retired from teaching in the first grade of the New Knoxville school. She was a member and presently president of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, professional women educator's organization. Mrs. Holtkamp was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Knoxville and the Women's Guild. She was a teacher in the Sunday school for years. She was interested in the home mission work of the United Church of Christ and had made several tours to the home mission fields. She had traveled widely in Europe, in South America, Mexico and this country. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, with the Rev. William H. Oelrich officiating. Burial will take place in Pilger Ruhe cemetery, New Knoxville. Friends may call at the Vornholt Funeral Home, New Bremen, after Thursday noon until Friday, 10:30 a.m. when the body will be removed to the church to lie in state until the hour of the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Friends wishing to give memorial gifts are asked by the family to give them to Lima Memorial hospital, the Home for the Aged at Upper Sandusky or some other charitable organization.
