Additional: Thomas L. Bidwell, 68, 37 Southmore Shores, St. Marys, died at 10:25 a.m. Friday Dec. 1, 2000, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following a sudden illness. He was born on July 27, 1932, in Greenville, the son of Kenneth R. and Catharine (Wilt) Bidwell. On April 5, 1979, he married Zita Kobel, who survives near St. Marys. Other survivors include a daughter, Paula (Richard) Hutchins of Belen, N.M.; a son, Chris (Lisa) Bidwell of Dayton; five stepchildren, Sam and Laura Dixon of Corona, Calif., Teresa ROBERTS of St. Marys and Randy and Carolyn Dixon of Cincinnati; a sister, Pat (Robert) Dieringer of Versailles; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Bidwell retired from Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen Dec. 31, 1995, after more than 40 years of service. During his time with Crown, he went from the engineering department to sales and product manager where he developed and marketed the first Crown lift truck products. Later as general manager, senior vice president and executive vice president, he led the development of new products, branches and operations outside of the U. S. He was awarded with a lifetime award from the Industrial Designers Society of American for his contributions and support of design. He also served as the Industrial Truck Association President and in 1994, he received the organizations' highest award for his efforts. At the time of his death, Mr. Bidwell was on the board of directors for Crown and was servicing as a special consultant for the company. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, with the Rev. John W. Tostrick officating. Burial will follow at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Gilberg Funeral Home in New Bremen and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the St. Paul United Church of Christ. Memorials may be directed to the St. Marys Rescue Squad, the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
