Additional: Joe R. Whitling, 76, of St. Marys, died at 11:35 p.m. Aug. 5 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Allen County, to Walter James and Ethel Pearl (Potts) Whitling. On March 21, 1945, he married Edna M. Wilson, who survives. Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Donnie Joe and Donna of Spencerville, and Douglas Lynn and Margie of St. Marys; a daughter and her husband, Beverly Jean and Robert Littler, Urbana, and a daughter, Kendra Lee Chiles, St. Marys; two brothers and their wives, Glen and Jane of Spencerville, and John and Betty of Venedocia; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Raymond and Robert. He was a retired farmer and was the former owner of St. Marys Dairy Queen and Whitling's Carry Out. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767. He was a 1942 graduate of Shawnee High School. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Woodyard officiating. Private burial of the cremated remains will be at Spencerville Cemetery. Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, handled arrangements.
