Additional: Eldon F. Whetstone, 78, 850 Gethsemane Ave., St. Marys, died at 11:30 p.m. March 5 at St. Ritas Medical Center, Lima. He was born May 14, 1922, in Auglaize County, to Franklin and Minnie Augusta (Trunk) Whetstone. On Sept. 25, 1943, he married Ruth Silvers, who died March 5, 1982. On Feb. 19, 1983, he married Norma Moyer Pottorf, who survives. Other survivors are three daughters and their husbands, Mary Barbara and Don Humphreys, Lima, Sharon Elaine and Jim Winget, and Trena Jean and Dennis Chiles, all of St. Marys; two stepsons and their wives, Douglas and Sherry Pottorf, Sidney, and Craig and Diana Pottorf, Englewood; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cheryl and Bob Conrad, West Carrollton; a stepson, Rob Pottorf, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Paul Bradford, New Knoxville; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and six step-great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Gerald, and a sister, Frances Thuman. He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in France, Italy and Germany. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and American Legion Post 323, both of St. Marys. He also was active at Piqua Baptist Church. He was a 1940 graduate of Buckland High School. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Revs. Patricia Minnich and Don Wells officiating. Burial with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 323 will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys. Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, with a memorial service conducted by the American Legion at 7 p.m. Contributions can be made to Agape Ministries.
