Additional: Donald E. Wright, 70, 1770 Celina Road, St. Marys, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. He was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Auglaize County, the son of Donald and Opal (Henne) Wright. On Aug. 7, 1951, he married Maxine Line, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Diane (Doug) Bonifas of Celina and Pam (Ted) Fox of St. Marys; two sons, David (Jodi) Wright and Anthony Wright, both of St. Marys; a sister, Dorothy (Barry) Silver of St. Marys; and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Wright was retired from the Hayes-Albion Corp. in Spencerville, where he had worked for 43 years, and had been actively involved in the management of the Innlet Restaurant in St. Marys for many years. He was owner of Gator's Lawn Service in St. Marys and was currently assisting in the operation of Dave's Celina Road Barbecue in St. Marys. He was a 1948 graduate of Memorial High school in St. Marys, where he had played baseball and football. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys. He was also a member of Hayes-Albion Retirees Group and the Spencerville Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He formerly coached Little League baseball for many years in St. Marys, including the Little League All-Star Team. He loved St. Marys Roughrider football and was a founding member of the St. Marys Rider Rooters. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Patricia Minnick and the Rev. James Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, where the Spencerville VFW will conduct graveside burial rites. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, where memorials may be directed to the Darke-Mercer County Hospice.
