Additional: Irena A. Siegel, 96, formerly of Newport, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at her residence in Fort Loramie. She was born Aug. 5, 1904, in Minster, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Fleckenstein) Sommer. On Nov. 15, 1921, she married Frank J. Siegel, who died Dec. 8, 1966. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Ralph) Brown of Lakeview, Geraldine (John) Permenter of Troy, Carol Streib of Versailles and Judy (John) Holtvogt of Fort Loramie; a son, Thomas (Norma) Siegel of Newport; a sister, Clara Fader of Dayton; two daughters-in-law, Hilda Siegel of Fort Loramie and Barbara Siegel of Piqua; a son-in-law, Melvin Bergman of Newport; 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, two sons, a brother, four sisters, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Siegel was a cook at Earls Island Restaurant in Lake Loramie for 28 years. She was one of the original organizers of the Fort Loramie High School Band. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Newport, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary and Rosary and the Alter Sodality of the church. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorials may be directed to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad.
