He was born March 20, 1929, in Dilley, Texas, to Jose and Micaela (Botell) Samaniego. On June 5, 1970, he married Barbara E. Norton, who survives. Other survivors are a son and his wife, David and Sonda of Lima; two sons Dean of Michigan City, Ind., and Joseph of St. Marys; two daughters and their husbands, Tonja and John Heppeard, Celina, and Toni and Brian Henning, St. Marys; five brothers, Ray and Mario, both of Ocala, Fla., Roger and Joseph, both of Celina, and Bobby of Crystal City, Texas; a sister, Jane Thomas, Troy; and eight grandchildren. He was retired from Ford Motor Co, Lima, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Army and Ohio National Guard. He was a member of Samaria Missionary Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both of St. Marys. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Jack Burns officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the VFW is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys. Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, with memorial services conducted by the VFW at 7 p.m. Contributions can be made to the church's building fund.
