Additional: Leo E. Purpus died suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday night. Services at Gilberg Funeral Home, Burial in German Protestant cemetery. Pallbeareres were fellow employees from Minster Machine. Death attributed to a heart attack. He was born February 22, 1889 in New Bremen the son of the late Theodore and Antoinette Voeckel Purpus. His father lived to be 101, came from Lauterecken, Germany to become one on New Bremen's best known business and civic leaders. Leo was employed here, Dayton, Detroit and Minster. Served as Municipal clerk of New Bremen in the 1930's and in the past few years operated an insurance company founded by his father. Lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church, also Mercer Lodge F & AM, Sottish Rite at Dayton. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Pearl Cleveland Purpus whom he married September 25, 1915 in Michigan, two sons, Theodore, Minster, Thomas a Marine at Cherry Point, N.C. a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Antoinette) Kehoe, Ann Arbor, Mich. a step-daughter, Mrs. Bart (Anna) Desch, Coldwater, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two brothers, Otto Purpus, Dayton and Adolph Purpus, Indianopolis.
