Additional: Elizabeth A. "Betty" Pitthan, 91, Wapakoneta, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta. She was born Feb. 16, 1909, in Oakmont, Pa., the daughter of Louis L. and Laura (Shrom) Banks. On June 19, 1937, she married Frederick J. Pitthan, who died Sept. 17, 1980. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jane (John) Keller of Wapakoneta; a son, Frederick J. (Dee) Pitthan Jr. of Rockford, Ill.; five grandchildren, Beth (Ross) Kantner, Susan (Craig) Niemeyer, Paul Keller, Robert Pitthan and Douglas Pitthan; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan Kantner, Kaitlin Kantner, Jacob Pitthan and Jeremy Pitthan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis L. Banks Jr., and a sister Loise Shoe. A homemaker, Mrs. Pitthan was co-owner of the former Sundial Motel in Wapakoneta. She was a former member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta and a volunteer with the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Soproptimist International, the Wapakoneta Woman's Club, the Helen Hunt Club and the Visiting Nurses Association all of Wapakoneta. She was a former president of the Wapakoneta PTA and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lima Chapter. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta with Dr. Daniel Messner of Shawnee Alliance Church officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the Service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the Benevolent Fund at Otterbein-Cridersville.
