Additional: Rites for Mrs. Ruth E. Meckstroth, wife of the Rev. Richard B. Meckstroth of New Knoxville, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the first United Church of Christ, New Knoxville. The Rev. Gary Kwiatek will officiate. Burial will be in the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vornholt Funeral Home, New Knoxville, from 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of services. The family requests that those desiring to give memorials donate them to the church memorial fund. Mrs. Meckstroth, 80, of 209 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, died at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday in the Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys. Death was due to complications following a stroke on Jan. 3. Born Feb. 6, 1896 in Poland, Ind., she was the daughter of the Rev. Herman H. and Agnes (Steinhage) Kattmann. She was married to Ernest Dro in 1922. He died in 1936. On April 19, 1938, she and the Rev. R.B. Meckstroth were married. He survives with two sons, Donald R. Meckstroth of Cleveland and Richard H. Meckstroth of Houston, Texas and two foster daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara Speicher) Cooley, Gary, Ind. and Mrs. Paul (Mary Ripple) Castleberry, Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and a sister Mrs. George Bixler, Berne, Ind. Two brothers, Paul Kattmann and the Rev. Harold Kattmann preceded her in death. Mrs. Meckstroth was a graduate of Berne High School and in 1919 graduated from Heidelberg University. She was a math teacher and later became principal of Ohio's first consolidated high school. She lived in Huntington, Ind. from 1938 to 1950, then moved to Fostoria before coming to New Knoxville in 1959 where the couple retired after servicing various churches. She had been a Sunday School teacher from the age of 12 until their retirement.
