Additional: Melville H.J. Laut, 90, of 115 S. Franklin St., New Bremen, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday in Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He had been a patient at the hospital three days and resided at Valley Nursing Home for the past 15 months. Born Nov. 3, 1891, he was the son of John B.C. and Bertha (Kelling) Laut. On July 14, 1932, he married Leona Nolte who survives. A sister, Mrs. Harold (Naomi) Steinle of Lima also survives. A brother, Clarence and two sisters, Minnie Jordan and Clara Stemen preceded him in death. Mr. Laut was a World War I veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post 241, New Bremen. He belonged to the Mercer Lodge No. 121, Free and Accepted Masons of St. Marys; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; and the Shrine Club of Antioch Temple, Dayton. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen and had been a retired jeweler. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Vornholt Funeral Home, New Bremen, with the Rev. Carolyn Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Sunday and until the time of the services Monday at the funeral home. Mercer Lodge members will conduct a memorial service at 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Legion post will hold a memorial service at the graveside. Preferred memorial is the St. Paul UCC memorial fund.
