Additional: Mrs. Opal Howell, 76, of 604 Oil St., St. Marys, was dead on arrival at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Joint Township District Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was transported there in the St. Marys City ambulance. Born April 11, 1902, in Hutsonville, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Linnie (Kinman) Vanover. On Nov. 8, 1922, she was married to Vernon Howell who survives with six children; Mrs. Ralph (Wilma) Wolfe, Mrs. Herschel (Barbara) Minnich, Mrs. Larry (Angela) Thornsberry and Richard F. Howell, St. Marys, Mrs. Edward (Norma) Sullivan, Lima, and Mrs. Roger (Ruby) Settlage, New Knoxville; 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Elson (Sylvia) Skaggs, Story, Ill., Mrs. Audrey Hitchen, St. Marys; and Mrs. Paul (Bonnie) Browder, Wapakoneta. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Vanover, a sister, Edith Rogers and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Howell was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the DWG Cigar co., and the S&W Motel, both in St. Marys. A member of the Grace United Methodist Church, St. Marys, she also belonged to the American Legion Auxilliary Unit 323, the St. Marys Senior Citizens, the Auglaize County Republican Women's Club and was a former presiding judge and worked at the election polls for 36 years. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Yoder-Long and Folk Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert A. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 8-9 p.m. Tuesday. Preferred memorial is the Grace United Methodist Church building fund.
