Additional: Aged Recluse Died Tuesday - (Nov. 1, 1921) - John Helmlinger Died at County Home after Week's Illness Due to Heavy Cold Contracted "Exposure suffered last week when he slept in an old wagon on the Henry Vossler farm, north of Wapakoneta, caused the death Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock of John L. Helmlinger, an aged Clay Township native, at the County Home. He was taken to the home a week ago and was near death since that time. "He was engaged in husking corn at the Vossler farm. His outdoor retreat provided poor shelter for him and he contracted a heavy cold which resulted in peneumonia. "He was born in Clay Township, August 17, 1848, and died at the age of seventy-three years, one month, and fourteen days. He was the son of Jacob Helmlinger, a native of Germany. Little is known of his relatives except that he is survived by four sons and a daughter. Only three of them are known, however. They are Mary, a married daughter whose last place of residence was on a farm near Tiffin, and John and Frank Helmlinger, who formerly resided at Tiffin, but information from there indicated they have gone to Indiana. These are the only known immediate relatives of the aged man. "Dr. S.H. Sibert and family of Fryburg were closely acquainted with him, as he was employed there at irregular intervals for twenty years. He was a wanderer by inclination and his whereabouts for the last year were known to the Siberts. He made his home at the Jacob Kupper residence in this city for some time, before going to the Vossler farm. He established sleeping quarters in the delapidated vehicle and became severely ill through dampness and cold."
