Additional: Ethel M. Hern, 85, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday Sept 13, 2000, at Auglaize Acres. She was born June 2, 1915, near Waynesfield to Nelson Steele and Anna Bertha (Krites) Henderson. On June 5, 1937, she married Venard Hern, who died June 8, 1985. Survivors include two sons, James V. (Donna) Hern and Edward N. (Penny) Hern, both of Wapakoneta; three daughters, Patricia Shroyer of Delaware, Gloria (Steve) Hicks of Wapakoneta and Anita (Roy) Schearer of Huntsville; 17 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Edith Preston and Dorothy (Grant) Kantn, both of Wapakoneta; and one sister-in-law Marguerite Henderson of Wapakoneta. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Fisher; one brother, Robert Henderson; an infant grandson; and an infant sister. Mrs. Hern was a homemaker who farmed the family farm with her husband. She was a member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church, it's United Methodist Women, the St. John Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a former 4-H advisor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in St. Johns with the Rev. David Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis. The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Johns United Methodist Church, the St. Johns Fire Department or the Special Needs Unit at Auglaize Acres.
