Additional: St. Marys—Daniel Joseph Fortman, 17, 01889 Feeder Road, was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, by Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag, following a one-car accident on State Route 364 near his home. He was born Sept 9, 1981 in St. Marys to Edward and Sandra Poppe Fortman. His parents survive at the residence. He is also survived by two sisters; Amy (Marvin) Thompson of Cincinnati and Melissa Fortman of St. Marys; maternal grandmother MaryLee Poppe of New Knoxville; maternal step-grandfather Carl Bowersock of Fort Loramie; maternal great-grandmother, Esther Allen of Lima; paternal grandfather Paul Fortman of St. Marys; one niece Carolyn Thompson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Florence Fortman; his maternal grandfather, Roland Poppe and his maternal step-grandmother Betty Bowersock. Daniel was a senior at Memorial High School and had been a student at the Tri Star Educational Compact during his junior year. He was a member of St. Marys Young Life and a member of Pheasants Forever. He was employed by Four Star Dairy in Yorkshire and previously at Rustic Haven Lucky Steer and Burger King. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. David A. Heinl officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Marys Young Life.
