Additional: Richard Ballenger, 82, 1127 Neil Ave., St. Marys, died at 6:20 p.m. Dec. 12 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Athens, to Albe and Mary (Carpenter) Ballenger. On July 21, 1946, he married Jeanne Cain and she survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Robert and Shirley Williams, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters and their husbands, Lucille and Robert Denham, Akron, and Karen and Don Ashby, Severne Park, Md., and three sisters, Rena Baker, Akron, Joan Diloreta, Orlando, Fla., and Kate Deorio, Lorton, Va.; a sister-in-law, Helen Runyon, Tallmadge; two grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Deceased is a brother, Robert. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 38 years of service as an electrical engineer. A 1937 graduate of North High School in Akron, he attended the Goodyear Technical Apprenticeship Program, where he became an electrician and master mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and helping to liberate a concentration camp. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys, where he served as Sunday School superintendent and sang in the choir for many years. He was a member and past president of the St. Marys Kiwanis Club, serving as lieutenant governor of the state organization in 1985. He also was a member of American Legion Post 323, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9289 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys, Masonic Lodge 83 of Akron, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron and Yusef Khan Grotto, Akron. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. David Woodyard officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with military graveside rites by the Legion and VFW. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Contributions can be made to the church youth program.
