Additional: Gerald R. Bennett, 74, former Waynesfield fire chief, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday in Lima Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 21, 1907, in Waynesfield, he was the son of Sherman and Sarah Elizabeth (Gilroy) Bennett. On Aug. 17, 1929, he married Cecile Bodle who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Louise Ann Bennett of Waynesfield; a son, James Bennett of Wapakoneta; one grandchild; and one sister, Lillian Foor of Wapakoneta. Mr. Bennett had been Waynesfield fire chief for more than 30 years. He had been an area maintenance supervisor for the Ohio Department of Transportation and was a member of the Wayne Lodge 569, Free and Accepted Masons. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the McAuley Funeral Home, Waynesfield. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A lodge memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
