Additional: Charles M. Briggs, of rural Spencerville died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in the SCCI Care Facility in Lima following a nine-week illness. He was born April 22, 1923, in Salem Twp., Auglaize County, the son of Leo R. and Anna E. (Seibert) Briggs. On Feb. 28, 1948, he married Peggy J. Lindamuth who survives. Other Survivors include a son, Michael R. Briggs, and a duaghter, Sue Ann (Danny) Goetz, both of Spencerville; two brothers, Richard "Rich" Briggs and Raymond "Ray" (Joyce) Briggs, and two sisters, Betty (Emil) Allmeier and Ann Briggs, all of Spencerville; a grandson; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. An infant brother preceded him in death. Mr. Briggs retired with 40 years service as a metal finisher in the funeral coach/ambulance division of Superior Coach/Sheller Globe Corp. and later with the Superior Coaches Company in Lima. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European theatre and was a life member of the Bowersock Brothers veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 of Spencerville. A 1942 graduate of Spencerville High School, Mr. Briggs was an active leader in Boy Scout Troop 2 in Spencerville for many years. He was also a member of the Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Association in Spencerville and a member of the Lima Senior Citizens. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with the Rev. Dale Bissell officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hills Cemetery East of New Hampshire, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion of Spencerville. Friends may call from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County Lung Association or the Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Association.
