Additional: Howard "Sam" Taylor, 73, 09333 New Bremen-New Knoxville Road, New Knoxville, died suddenly at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in the emergency room of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following a heart attack. He was born May 27, 1927, in Parker's Lake, Ky., the son of Elmer and Zola (Lewis) Taylor. On Oct. 17, 1978, he married Jean Kinnard, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Ed) Koenig of St. Marys and Delores (Mike) Stephens of Tampa, Fla.; two stepsons, Bill (Sarah) Bordac of Los Angeles and Scott Bordac of Barberton; a stepdaugher, Chris (Steve) Wilson of Rittman; a sister, Pearl (Emmitt) Miller of Whitley City, Ky.; two brothers, Alva (Helen) Taylor of Muncie, Ind., and Burton (Coreen) Taylor of Dublin, Va.; five granddaughters; a grandson; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Barney Taylor and Norman Taylor. Mr. Taylor was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys after 40 years of service. He was the owner of Taylor'd Sound By Sam and Taylor's Care Lawn and Landscaping Service. A graduate of Stearns High School in Stearns, Ky., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 323 in St. Marys and the New Knoxville Historical Society, where he was well known for cooking bean and chili soup each year at the Historical Society open house in the fall. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. Ron Spurgeon officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where memorials may be directed to the New Bremen Emergency Squad or Hillsdale Baptist Church.
