Additional: Departed from this life on Friday eveining, Jan 6, 1877, Dr. R.W. Stearns, age 67 years, 6 months and 14 days. Again we are called upon to record the death of one of our oldest citizens, who has won for himself an obituary unimpeachable. Mr. Stearns was one of those whole-souled, jovial, Christian gentlemen who was beloved by everybody. He has suffered almost a year with a cancer in the stomach, which caused pain that cannot be told of, yet, through it all he never murmured, always saying that the Lord's will was his and in His good time He would take him to that blessed land on high, where sickness and sorrow never enters, but where all is joy, peace and love. Dr. Stearns was born in Rutland, Meigs county, Ohio, June 21, 1809, was married to his now bereaved widow Nov. 3, 1835. United with the M.E. church 36 years ago. In his family he was all that a father could be, always ready to wait on his children in a kind way. In the community he was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to the poor and needy. In the church he will be greatly missed. For 36 years he has striven to build up Christ's kingdom here on eath, but now he is numbered with the blood-washed throng in heaven. Let us all try to live as he had, and at last gain that home in heaven prepared for those who follow Christ. Dr. Stearns was a member of the Odd Fellows Order. The members of the Order of this place, Wapakoenta, New Bremen Spencerville, Deep Cut, Celina and other places were present to help pay the last respects due a friend and brother.
