Additional: New Bremen—Alvira C.L. Schmidt, 94, 220 W. Ash St., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at 2:45 p.m. at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster. She was born March 8, 1906, in New Bremen, the daughter of George and Alvina (Brune) Roettger. On June 20, 1929, she married Herman William Schmidt, who died April 13, 1991. Mrs. Schmidt was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Church of Christ in New Bremen, and a former member of the Christian Service Guild of the church. She was a charter member of the New Bremen Senior Citizens. She was a home maker. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Gilberg- Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen. The Rev. John W. Tostrick will officiate. Burial will be in German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 p.m. until time for services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer/Darke Co. Hospice or the New Bremen Emergency Squad.
