Additional: Dr. Paul G. Meckstroth, 88, Bryan, formerly of New Knoxville, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1912, in New Knoxville, the son of Dr. Edwin Charles and Martha (Howe) Meckstroth. On June 28, 1941, he married Mary E. Kidd, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Diane Meckstroth of Colorado and Jane (Steve) Miller of Bryan; two sons, Don Meckstroth of New Hampshire and John Meckstroth of Florida; a sister, Ruth Finlay of Columbus; a brother, Leslie Meckstroth of South Carolina; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Meckstroth. Dr. Meckstroth graduated from Ohio University School of Medicine in 1940. He interned at City Hospital in Springfield. He was a member of the Phi Chi professional medical fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the 301st Medical Battalion, 76th Infantry Division. He attained the rank of major, served in the European Theater one year and earned four battle stars. Dr. Meckstroth set up a general practice in Bryan in 1945. In 1966 he formed a partnership with other Bryan physicians and moved to Bryan Community Hospital. The association moved to the Bryan Medical Group in 1970. He practiced general medicine and anesthesia. During his practice, he delivered more than 3,000 babies. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bryan Masonic Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose and Orchard Hills Country Club and was a charter member of the Lions Club. In 1981 he retired to New Smyrna Beach, Fla. In 1994, he and his wife returned to Bryan to live full time. Funeral services were held March 12 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan. Burial followd at Fountain Grove Cemetery with a military graveside service. Memorials may be directed to Bryan Area Foundation, Community Hospitals of Williams County Hospice Program or the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.
