Additional: James Russell Miars, 61, Anna, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Wapak Manor in Wapakoneta. He was born Aug. 19, 1939 in Jackson Center, the son of Russell and Esther (Gross) Miars. On Sept. 6, 1958, he married Betty Leininger, who survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Jan (Greg) Whitsett of Anna; Julie (John Nelson) Miars Golden of Wapakoneta and Joni (Frank) Overcast of Cincinnati; a sister, Rita (Allen) Harshbarger of Cincinnati and nine grandchildren, Trisha and Todd Barhorst, Travis and Sarah Whitsett, Drew and Devon Golden and Wynton, Macon and Ellory Overcast. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Miars owned and operated Fogt's Water Conditioning in Anna. He had previously served in the U.S. Army and was head of quality control at Airstream in Jackson Center. A graduate of Jackson Center High School, he was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church in Anna and a past member of Sunset Kiwanis and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, both in Sidney. He enjoyed fishing and attending his grandchildren's activities. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church in Anna with Pastor Michael Althauser officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery near Swanders. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Van Horn Funeral Home in Jackson Center. Memorials may be directed to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Shelby County.
