Additional: Helen L. Miller, 85, Spencerville, died at 3:12 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at the Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville, where she had resided since 1997. She was born April 13, 1915, in Uniopolis, the daughter of Enos and Flora Anna (Weber) Place. On May 15, 1931, she married Orval R. Miller, who died Feb. 28, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Irene (Dick) Lape and Marie (Hank) Longstreth, both of Spencerville; a sister, Freda Burch of Mendon; seven grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Daisy Brown, Dollie Alexander, Mamie Miller and Floretta Browder. Mrs. Miller was formerly employed at the Lima Westinghouse Corp. and at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys. She was formerly the manager of Diana's Dress Shop, later the SoFro Fabric Store, at the American Mall in Lima. She was a member of The Friends Church in Spencerville, where she had served as secretary/treasurer of the Adult Sunday School, and was a member of its Missionary Society. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with the Rev. William R. Abram officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Old Hartford Cemetery, northeast of Spencerville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the music department of Spencerville High School or to the Spencerville Emergency Medical Squad.
