Additional: William V. "Hafe" Lietz, 74, of 410 E. Pearl St., Wapakoneta, died at 4:41 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998 at his residence. He had been ill with cancer for the past six months. He was born Feb. 8, 1924 in St. Marys to Dewey and Goldie (Hole) Leitz. On Aug. 19, 1948, he married Rita C. Kreitzer, who died April 27, 1992. Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry R. and Wanda Lietz of Wolcott, Ind., and James W. and Brigitte Lietz of Wapakoneta; one daughter and one son-in-law, Julie and Roger Shellenbarger of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Montgomery of Wapakoneta; one brother and one sister-in-law, Robert and Betty Lietz, also of Wapakoneta; and his mother, Mrs. Goldie Lietz Waldo of Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta. A 1942 graduate of Blume High School, Mr. Lietz attended Ohio State University and was a retired brick mason, emmployed by H.U. Tuttle Construction in Lima. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. He was the past president of Brick Masons Union, Lima; a member of BPO Elks Lodge 1170, VFW Post 8445, American Legion Post 330, and a life member of AmVets Chapter 333, all in Wapakoneta; he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II; he was a former trustee for Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Foundation; a member of the USS Kidd Assn., and past secretary-treasurer of USS Luce Assn.; he served in Wapakoneta as Councilman-at-Large for eight years, was president of Council for 12 years and Mayor of Wapakoneta for 12 years; he was the former chairman of the Auglaize County Republican Central Committee and worked on the campaign staff for Gov. George Voinovich. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta with the Rev. Jozsef L. Farkasdi officiating. Military rites will conducted at the cemetery by VFW Post 8445. Friends may call from 10--11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998 at Long & Folk Funeral Home in Wapakoneta. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer-Darke County Hospice.
