Additional: LeRoy H. Kruse, 82, 107 S. Main St., New Knoxville, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born May 26, 1918, in St. Marys, the son of Henry and Mathilda (Opperman) Kruse. On Nov. 3, 1943, he married Rachel Wierwille, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Steve (Sharon) Kruse of New Knoxville and Rodney (Dawn) Kruse of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Margaret Rupert of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Marlene Kruse Henschen of New Knoxville and Nicholas and Alexa Kruse, both of Greenville, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kelly Henschen of New Knoxville. He was preceded in death by two sisters, and a brother. Mr. Kruse was retired as Auglaize County Recorder and was founder and owner of the former Tastee Freeze Restaurant in New Knoxville. A 1938 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, he was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, the St. Marys Kiwanis Club and the Wapakoneta Elks. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren; Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Church of Christ with the Rev. David Hunt and the Rev. Nathan Wierwille officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home in New Knoxville, where memorials may be directed to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the First United Church of Christ or to the Mercer County Hospice.
