Additional: Harold L. "Sparky" Kettler, 84, 4483 Lock Two Road, New Bremen, died at 5:14 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2000, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He was born April 22, 1916, in Auglaize County, north of New Bremen, to August and Malinda (Ahlers) Kettler. On March 30, 1940, he married Mary Sanders, who survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Ronald Kettler of Augusta, Ga., and Donald (Sue) Kettler of New Bremen; and one daughter, Nancy (Ray) McMaster of New Bremen; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Milford Kettler of New Knoxville; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Kettler of New Knoxville and Doris Czech of New Bremen. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Donnerberg and Helen Leonard; and two brothers, Richard and Frederick Kettler. Mr. Kettler retired in 1981 after 38 years of service from Mersman Brothers Furniture Company of Celina. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, the American Legion Post 241, and the Woodman Lodge camp 149, all of New Bremen. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the Rhineland, in Central Europe and Ardennes, France, with the 105th Engineer Cambat Battalion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place in the Willow Grove Cemetery in New Bremen, where the New Bremen American Legion Post 241 will conduct military rites. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the services Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church memorial fund or to the New Bremen Emergency Squad. Arrangements are being handled by Gilberg Funeral Home in New Bremen.
