Additional: Vernon L. Hecht, 61, Cole Street, a native of Sidney, died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at 1:25 a.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital. Born Aug 18, 1939, in Sidney, he was the son of Christopher and Ursula (Magato) Hecht. On Sept. 18, 1988, he married Elsie F. Price and she survives with three sons, Mark Hecht of Botkins, Matthew Hecht, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendelton, Calif, and Michael Hecht of Sidney; two daughters, Elaine Hecht and Mrs. Norman (Ann) Wilmoth of Wapakoneta; two stepduaghters, Mrs. David (Sherry) Holbrook of Morehead, Ky., and Tonya Porter of Grayson, Ky; seven grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald and Paul Hecht of Sidney, and two sisters, Mrs. James (Norma) Stengel of Lakeview and Barbara Jean Hecht of Hamilton. Three brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death. Mr. Hecht retired from Quality Ready Mix in Wapakoneta, where he worked as an operator and truck maintenance man. He was an avid fishersman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta with the Rev. Peter Chiodo officiating. Buirial will follow at Pearl Cemetery near Swanders. Friends amy call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bayliff and Eley Funeral home in Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
