Additional: Verna M. Egbert, 79, 217 S. Main St., New Bremen, died at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster. She was born Sept 20, 1921, near New Bremen in German Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Levi and Julianna (Ziegenbusch) Egbert. Survivors include a sister, Lodema Dicke of New Bremen; three nephews, Joe Knost of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jack Knost of Charlotte, N.C., and Jim Knost of Toledo; and two nieces Julie Zaret of Bloomington, Ind., and Jayne Knost of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her good friend, Ken Wheeler. Ms. Egbert retired in 1983 from the former Beatrice Foods in New Bremen. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Bremen and a member of the Quilters of the church. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World in New Bremen. She enjoyed playing cards and quilting. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gilberg Funeral Home in New Bremen with the Rev. Steven Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the church memorial fund or to the New Bremen Emergency Squad.
