Additional: Ferd F. Eversman, age 68, widely known for his work as a teacher of voice and a director of the New Knoxville Community Singers, died suddenly at 7:30 a.m. today at his home in New Knoxville. Mr. Eversman had been seriously ill for some time but had arisen at the usual hour this morning and was about to eat breakfast when he was fatally stricken. He had taught voice in the schools at New Knoxville and in schools of the county system for 20 years. Most of the members of his famed Community Singers had begun their study of voice with him in the grade schools at New Knoxville. He was recognized for his choral direction in invitations to the Singers to present programs at Lakeside Chautauqua, at the Toledo Zoo, on the radio and television, and in neighboring communities, including St. Marys. He took much pride in the accomplishments of his chorus and in the progress of the pupils he taught privately. Before returning to New Knoxville as a voice teacher in the public schols there he had taught voice at the Eastern State Teachers College in Madison, South Dakota and at Findlay College, Findlay. He was directer of Zion Lutheran Church Choir in this city since 1957. He formerly directed the New Knoxville United Church of Christ Senior Choir for 10 years and the Junior Choir for eight years. Mr. Eversman personally arranged much of the music his choirs used, spending hours in these arrangements. Ferdinand Frederick Eversman was born March 19, 1891, on a farm southeast of New Knoxville in Shelby County, the son of Henry W. and Caroline Lutterbeck Eversman. His mother died this last August 8. On September 9, 1919, he married Zella Fledderjohann, who had cared for him tenderly during his illness and who has served as his accompanist through the years. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, James R. of Worthington, a granddaughter, Karen Eversman of Worthington and a legion of friends. Mrs. Julius Eversman and Mrs. S. R. Eversman, of New Knoxville, are sisters-in-law. He was a member of First United Church of Christ (E&R) New Knoxville, the Washington Post 444 American Legion, Disabled American veterans at Wapakoneta, the three Masonic bodies in St. Marys- Mercer Lodge, St. Marys Chapter and St. Marys Council, the Shawnee Commandery, and the Scotish Rite at Dayton. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the Medical Corps at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. During World War II he served as a member of the Selective Service Board of Auglaize County. Military funeral services will be held for him Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Gilberg & Hegemier Funeral Home in New Bremen and at 2 o'clock at the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville.
