He was born Jan. 28, 1912, in New Bremen, to Edwin and Alice (Niemeyer) Dicke. On Jan. 15, 1935, he married Cornelia Hirsch who died Feb. 24, 2000. Survivors are a brother and his wife, Dale and Catherine of Defiance; a sister and her husband, Eloise and Emerson Christman, Tipp City; and two sisters-in-law, Ledema and Louise, both of New Bremen. Deceased are four brothers, Woodrow, Franklin, Paul and Richard, and two infant children, Emily and Michael. He was retired as a rural mail carrier at the St. Marys branch of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Staff Sergeant and U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the 69th Division earning the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 323 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both of St. Marys. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Marys. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys. Calling is at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
