Additional: Joan E. Copeland, 51, Gutman Road, Wapakoneta, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at her residence. She was born Nov. 12, 1948, in Lima to Emil and Minnie (Roode) Tieben. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta. On June 19, 1971, she married Larry G. Copeland, who survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Scott L. Copeland of Cleveland and Bradley J. Copeland of Wapakoneta; one daughter, Kimberly A. Copeland of Wapakoneta; and one brother, Bert (Jewel) Tieben of Oviedo, Fla. Mrs. Copeland worked as an elementary teacher with New Knoxville, Wapakoneta City and Botkins Schools. She later worked with the Wapakoneta Daily News as a copy editor and NIE (Newspapers In Education) program manager. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta. She was a 1967 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School, and a 1971 graduate of the Ohio State University. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Baliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta with the Rev. Steven L. Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, near Gutman. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Leukemia Research Association.
