Additional: Joseph A. Ahms, 82, 24 N. Hamilton St., Minster, formerly of Fort Loramie, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Fort Loramie, the son of Herman and Josephine (Schmidt) Ahms. On April 18, 1950, he married Mary P. Keller, who died in 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Esther (Joe) Heitkamp of Fort Recovery; four sons, Leo (Rita) Ahms, Vernon (Amy) Ahms, Louie (Denise) Ahms and Leroy (Phyliss) Ahms, all of Fort Loramie; a sister, Kathleen (Arthur) Fisher of Wapakoneta; three brothers, Bernard (Rosemary) Ahms of Pemberton, Julius (Mary Alice) Ahms of Maria Stein and Karl (Evelyn) Ahms of Fort Loramie; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Leon Ahms and Jerome Ahms; a sister, Martha Poeppelman; and a brother, George Ahms. Mr. Ahms was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Lake Loramie State Park. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Fort Loramie. He was a member of Knights of St. John, Commandary 300 of Mt. Michael's and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Commandary 1391 of Minster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30) a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church with the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to the Donor's choice.
