Additional Information: Melville H.J. Laut, 90, of 115 S.
Franklin St., New Bremen, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday in Joint
Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He had been a
patient at the hospital three days and resided at Valley
Nursing Home for the past 15 months. Born Nov. 3, 1891, he
was the son of John B.C. and Bertha (Kelling) Laut. On July
14, 1932, he married Leona Nolte who survives. A sister, Mrs.
Harold (Naomi) STEINLE of Lima also survives. A brother,
Clarence and two sisters, Minnie JORDAN and Clara STEMEN
preceded him in death. Mr. Laut was a World War I veteran of
the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of the American Legion
Post 241, New Bremen. He belonged to the Mercer Lodge No.
121, Free and Accepted Masons of St. Marys; Ancient Accepted
Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; and the Shrine Club of
Antioch Temple, Dayton. He was a member of St. Paul United
Church of Christ in New Bremen and had been a retired
jeweler. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the
Vornholt Funeral Home, New Bremen, with the Rev. Carolyn Mann
officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens,
St. Marys. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Sunday and until
the time of the services Monday at the funeral home. Mercer
Lodge members will conduct a memorial service at 9 p.m.
Sunday at the funeral home. The Legion post will hold a
memorial service at the graveside. Preferred memorial is the
St. Paul UCC memorial fund.

Additional Information: William M. Huenke, 85, of R.R.2, New
Bremen, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Joint Township District
Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for three
days. Born Nov. 9, 1896, in St. Marys Township, he was the
son of Albert and Minnie (Jordan) Huenke. On Aug. 18, 1923,
he married Clara Heil who died March 17, 1979. Survivors
include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Kathryn) MAZE of
R.R.1, New Bremen; Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) HUWER of St. Marys;
five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister,
Jennie Huenke of Wapakoneta. Three brothers, Theodore, Edward
and Albert; and four sisters, Bessie, Minnie, Clara MCKEE and
Laura DAMMEYER, preceded him in death. Mr. Huenke was a World
War I veteran and member of the American Legion Post 241 of
New Bremen. He was also a member of the New Bremen Home
Benefit Association; New Bremen Senior Citizens; Koop
Community Club of St. Marys and the St. Paul United Church of
Christ in New Bremen. He had served in the St. Marys Township
zoning board and had been a director of the Auglaize County
Fair Board. He was a retired farmer. Services will be held at
2 p.m. Sunday in the Vornholt Funeral Home, New Bremen with
the Rev. Carolyn Mann officiating. Burial will follow at
German Protestant Cemetery with military rites being
conducted by the Legion at the graveside. Friends may call
from 4-9 p.m. Saturday and until the time of services Sunday
at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the St. Paul UCC
memorial fund.

49, of 327 Northway Dr., St. Marys, died at 3:24 p.m.
Thursday in the intensive care unit of Joint Township
District Memorial Hospital after a one-month illness. Born
Sept 5, 1932, in Anthony, Kan., she was the daughter of Roy
F. and Lura Lee (Parker) Lyman. Her parents survive at R.R.2
St. Marys. On July 29, 1949, she married Robert L. Reineke
who also survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs.
Nicholas (Susan) DINGLEDINE of St. Marys; two grandchildren;
two brothers, Olin Lynam of Syracuse, Kan.; Donald Lyman of
R.R.2, St. Marys; and two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Margaret)
TIMMELL of Neodesha, Kan.; and Mrs. Rueben (Mary) HECHT of
Yorkshire. An infant brother, Philip and one infant daughter,
Rebecca preceded her in death. Mrs. Reineke was a waitress at
Northmoor Golf Club. She had formerly been employed as a
cashier at Leonhard's and Pantry Pride groceries. She was a
member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Services will be
held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Yoder-Long and Folk Funeral
Home with the Rev. Alan R. Wolford officiating. Burial will
follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m.
today at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the American
Cancer Society.

Esther L. Woehler, 70, of 204 E. Monroe St., New Bremen, died
at 1:00 a.m. today in Joint Township District Memorial
Hospital after a six-month illness. She was born Jan. 30,
1912 in Van Buren Township, Shelby County, the daughter of
Albert and Rebecca (Boesel) Westerbeck. On June 28, 1950, she
married Eugene Woehler, who died May 24, 1976. Survivors
include three sisters, Mrs. Wilhelmina NIEKAMP and Mrs. Ralph
(Marie) SCHWABEROW, both of New Bremen; Mrs. Forest (Irene)
NUESMEYER of R.R.2, Wapakoneta; and one brother, Paul
Westerbeck of New Bremen. A brother Arnold preceded her in
death. Mrs. Woehler was a member of the New Bremen Senior
Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary of New Bremen,
where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church
with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence T. Holmer officiating. Burial will
be at the German Protestant Cemetery. Friend may call at
Vornholt Funeral Home, New Bremen, from 4-9 p.m. Monday and
until 11 a.m. Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the
church after 11 a.m. prior to the services. The Legion
Auxiliary has scheduled a memorial service for 9 p.m. Monday

Engel, 75, of 142 Longview Court, St. Marys, died at 9:30
a.m. Sunday in Joint Township District Memorial Hospital of a
heart attack. He had been ill with a heart condition for the
past eight months. Born Dec. 24, 1906 in Noble Township, he
was the son of Henry and Maria (Hudson) Engel. On June 29,
1928, he married Ruby Bonifield who survives. Survivers
include a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Vera) FRASURE of R.R.1, St.
Marys; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Alvin Engel of R.R.1, Spencerville; and Guy Engel
of Wapakoneta; and one sister, Mrs. Katheryn ATKINSON of Fort
Pierce, Fla. Four brothers, Louie, Adrian, Merdous and
Lester; and one sister, Onnolee WHEELER preceded him in
death. Mr. Engel was a retired farmer. In 1974, he moved from
the farm to St. Marys. HE was a member of St. Paul United
Church of Christ. He was also a member of the fraternal Order
of Eagles Aerie 691 of Wapakoneta; St. Marys Senior Citizens;
and the Methodist Brotherhood Mutual Benefit Association.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Yoder-Long
and Folk Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard A. Cook
officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery. The family
will receive friends Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. in the
funeral home.

Obituary / Additional Information: Lonnie A. Musser, 91, of
Waynesfield died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday in Lima Memorial
Hospital from injuries received in a three-car accident on
State Route 196 in Auglaize County. (Corresponding story in
this paper). Born Jan. 13, 1891, in Auglaize County, he was
the son of A.A. and Anna (Heffner) Musser. On Dec. 1, 1916,
he married Koneta Stewart who died Feb. 7, 1966. Survivors
include two daughters, Virginia SMITH of Waynesfield; Mrs.
Kermit (Luanna) SCHNELLE of R.R.1, Waynesfield; six
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs.
Dwight (Gaithel) GUTHRIE of Waynesfield; Mrs. Brooks (Vaude)
FLINN of Lima; and one brother, Jim Musser of DeGraff. Mr.
Musser was a retired permit inspector for the State Liquor
Department. He was a member of Waynesfield United Methodist
Church; Wayne Lodge No 569 Free and Accepted Masons; Ancient
and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; Wayne Post 395
of the American Legion. He was a World War I veteran.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the McAuley
Funeral Home, Waynesfield with the Rev. J.C. Herbert
officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery with
military rites conducted by the Legion at graveside. Friends
may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The Wayne lodge will hold a service at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in
the funeral home.

Obituary / Additional Information: Kittie Leota Short,
78, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday in
Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. Born Jan. 17, 1904 in St.
Marys, she was the daughter of William and Margaret (Swartz)
Kramer. On Oct. 4, 1918, she married Charles E. Short who
died Sept. 5, 1974. Survivors include three sons, Charles
Short Jr. of Lima; William Short of Wapakoneta; Robert Short
of Lakeview; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Short was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. Six brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She was a retired employee of the DWG Cigar Co. in Lima.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Siferd
Westwood Chapel, Lima with the Rev. Willard Thomas
officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.

Additional Information: Elma Schultz Edgington, 77, of
Waynesfield, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Wapakoneta Manor
Nursing Home. She was born March 30, 1905 in Logan County,
the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Shockey) Phillips. Her
first husband, Elmer Schultz died in 1965. Later she married
Clarence Edgington who survives in Wapakoneta. Other
survivors include three stepson, Byron Edgington of Columbus;
James W. Edgington of Plain City; and Donald Edgington of
Dayton; a step-daughter Mrs. Jack (Martha) YALE of
Waynesfield; 23 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-
grandchildren. Mrs. Edgington was a homemaker and member of
the Waynesfield Baptist Church. She was also a member of the
Koneta Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Wapakoneta.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at McAuley Funeral Home,
Waynesfield with the Rev. Arthur Derry officiating. Burial
will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Additional Information: Gerald R. Bennett, 74, former
Waynesfield fire chief, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday in Lima
Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 21, 1907, in Waynesfield, he was
the son of Sherman and Sarah Elizabeth (Gilroy) Bennett. On
Aug. 17, 1929, he married Cecile Bodle who survives. Other
survivors include a daughter, Louise Ann Bennett of
Waynesfield; a son, James Bennett of Wapakoneta; one
grandchild; and one sister, Lillian FOOR of Wapakoneta. Mr.
Bennett had been Waynesfield fire chief for more than 30
years. He had been an area maintenance supervisor for the
Ohio Department of Transportation and was a member of the
Wayne Lodge 569, Free and Accepted Masons. Services will be
held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the McAuley Funeral Home,
Waynesfield. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Perry St., St. Marys, died at 2:41 p.m. Friday in Good
Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. He had been admitted to the
coronary care unit of the hospital, preparing for surgery.
Born June 22, 1923 in Celina, he was the son of Walter and
Lydia (Miller) Deitsch. On May 12, 1950, he married Ida M.
Henning who survives. Survivors include three sons, Robert
Deitsch and Bill Deitsch, both of St. Marys; Jeff Deitsch of
New Knoxville, three daughters, Mrs. Owen (Kris) HUBBELL and
Mrs. Dave (Lynn) FREEWALT, both of St. Marys, Mrs. Wayne
(Cheryl) DITSON of Columbus; and six grandchildren. Mr.
Deitsch was a truck driver for Continental Can Co. of Van
Wert. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of
Christ. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Services
will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Yoder-Long and Folk
funeral home with the Rev. Dennis E. Snell officiating.
Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will

Additional Information: Henry I. "Heinie" Bubp, 81,
formerly of 354 N. Chestnut St., St. Marys, died at 1:15
Saturday at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta, where he had resided
since 1977. He was born Sept. 10, 1900 in Wapakoneta, the son
of William Edward and Ann (Duvel) Bubp. On Sept 15, 1921, he
married Madeline Widner who survives in St. Marys. Other
survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Madeline) HUNTER
of St. Marys; one son Geary Bubp of R.R.2, St. Marys; 12
grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. Mr. Bubp was the
last surviving member of his immediate family. A son, Henry
"Bud" Jr. and two brothers, Alvin and Franklin
predceded him in death. He was owner-operator of Heinie's
Place from 1943-62. Mr. Bubp was a member of the Fraternal
Order of Eagle, Aerie 767 and a Golden Eagle. He was also a
former member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of
the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Leo A. Hoying
officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. The
family will receive friends in the Yoder-Long & Folk
Funeral home from 4-9 p.m. Monday. Preferred memorial is the

Township, Mercer County, the daughter of David J. and
Christina (Mox) Temple. On April 10, 1928, she married
Clinton C. Nelson, who died Sept. 13, 1968. Survivors include
a daughter, Betty J. Nelson of St. Marys; and several nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers,
Lewis, Luther, Robert, Lincoln, Harold and Guy Temple; a
sister, Naomi DAVIS; and Charles GARWICK, who lived with the
Nelsons as a youth. A homemaker, Mrs. Nelson worked with the
Woolen Mills in St. Marys and Mersman Furniture Co. in
Celina. She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist
Church in St. Marys. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral home in
Wapakoneta with the Rev. Ruth Ramsey officiating. Burial will
follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta. Friends may

formerly of Newport, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27,
2001, at her residence in Fort Loramie. She was born Aug. 5,
1904, in Minster, the daughter of Henry and Mary
(Fleckenstein) Sommer. On Nov. 15, 1921, she married Frank J.
Siegel, who died Dec. 8, 1966. Survivors include four
daughters, Barbara (Ralph) BROWN of Lakeview, Geraldine
(John) PERMENTER of Troy, Carol STREIB of Versailles and Judy
(John) HOLTVOGT of Fort Loramie; a son, Thomas (Norma) Siegel
of Newport; a sister, Clara FADER of Dayton; two daughters-
in-law, Hilda Siegel of Fort Loramie and Barbara Siegel of
Piqua; a son-in-law, Melvin BERGMAN of Newport; 32
grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by two daughters, two sons, a brother, four sisters,
and six grandchildren. Mrs. Siegel was a cook at Earls Island
Restaurant in Lake Loramie for 28 years. She was one of the
original organizers of the Fort Loramie High School Band. She
was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in
Newport, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary and Rosary and the
Alter Sodality of the church. A mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call
from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorials may be directed

Russell M. "Rusty Ladd" Widmark, 54, Wapakoneta,
died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Miami Valley
Medical Center in Dayton. He was born Dec. 12, 1946 in Lima,
the son of Rusty and Kathleen (Frost) Widmark. His mother
survives in Wapakoneta. Other survivors include a daughter,
Melinda HORN of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Jim FINKE of
St. Petersburg. Fla., and Rex HARTMAN of Wapakoneta; five
brothers, Randy (Pat) Widmark, Jeff Widmark, Dana (Brenda)
Widmark, Ronnie (Brenda) Widmark and Keith Widmark, all of
Wapakoneta; a sister, Kay (Michael) TEMAN of Fort Jennings;
and two grandchildren. Mr. Widmark had worked with the
Minster Machine Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was
a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8445, the
American Legion 330 and the Eagles 691, all of Wapakoneta.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta with the Rev.
Peter Doseck officiating. Military services will be conducted
by the Wapakoneta VFW at the funeral home following the
service. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Kimberly Lynn Chaney, 39, 10380 State Route 29, Sidney, died
suddenly at 1:24 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in the
emergency department of Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney.
She was born Nov. 10, 1961 in St. Marys, the daughter of Jack
Slife and Jeanne GEPHART. Her father and his current wife,
Laura, survive in New Bremen, and her mother and her current
husband, Dick Gephart, survive in Union City, Tenn. Other
survivors include two daughters, Peggy Chaney and Lindsey
Chaney, both of Sidney; her fiance Tony DECKER of Sidney;
three brothers, Jeff Slife of Anna, Chad Slife of New Bremen
and Wes (Miranda) Slife of St. Marys; three sisters, Julie
HARDEE and Jennifer (Mike) STEPHENS, both of St. Marys, and
Nikki BARKER of New Carlisle; and numerous nieces, nephews,
aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by a sisters
Kelly Slife and a friend, Betty LUEDEKE. A homemaker, Mrs.
Chaney was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St.
Marys. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Funeral
services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Miller Funeral Home
in St. Marys with Rev. David Heinl officiating. Friends may
call from noon until the time of services Monday at the
funeral home.

Gerber, 90, formerly of Botkins, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday,
Jan. 25, 2001, at the Celina Manor Nursing Home in Celina.
She had moved to her daughter's home in St. Marys in February
2000 and had resided at Celina Manor for two weeks. She was
born Feb. 11, 1910 in Shelby County, the daughter of Charles
and Edith (Schrolucke) Holtkamp. In December 1931, she
married Forrest Henry Bambauer, who died July 31, 1969. Then
on Aug 22, 1980, she married Lloyd Gerber, who survives at
the Gardens of Wapakoneta. Other survivors include two
daughters, Gayla (Tom) BURDEN of St. Marys and Miriam
(Clarence) PFADDT of Botkins; two stepdaughters, Phyllis
(Gary) KLOPFENSTEIN of Wapakoneta and Ruth Ann DECKER of
Lynn, Ind.; a sister, Violet (Don) ELSASS of Sidney; a
sister- in-law, Miram Holtkamp of New Bremen; 11
grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; five step-
grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a brother, L.W. Holtkamp; a grandchild
and a great-grandchild. Mrs. Gerber was formely an accountant
at Marathon Oil C. She later worked as a lab techician at
Provico Feed Co. Since 1941, she was a member of the
Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene, where she had served as
church organist, pianist, a Sunday School teacher and board
member for many years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev.
John Wine officiating. Burial will follow at Schwabero
Cemetery in New Bremen. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and
7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where memorials may
be directed to the Gideons International.

Additional Information: Howard L. Burden, 68, of Parker Shady
Acres, St. Marys, was dead on arrival of an apparent heart
attack at 9:50 p.m. Saturday in Joint Township District
Memorial Hospital. He was transported to the hospital by the
St. Marys Emergency Squad. Born Dec. 12, 1913, in St. Marys,
he was the son of Leo and Hazel (Wright) Burden. On May 31,
1936, he married Cynthia Gearheardt who survives. Other
survivors include two sons, Leo H. Burden of Lima; Larry D .
Burden of St. Marys; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Carol) DEITZ
of St. Marys; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Paul
(Violet) RIEGER of St. Marys; and LaVon HOUSER of Rockford. A
brother Herbert; one half-brother, Charlton WILLIAMS; and two
sons, Jerry Joe and Noel Dean preceded him in death. In 1976,
Mr. Burden retired from the engineering department at
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of the Goodyear
Retirees Club. Services will be held at 10:00 Wednesday in
the Yoder-Long & Folk Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis
E. Snell officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the

of R.R.1, Tri-Township Road, New Bremen, died at 5:20 a.m.
today of a heart condition in Joint Township District
Memorial Hospital, after a seven month illness. For six
months, he had been a patient at the University Hospital in
Columbus. Born Jan. 8, 1919 on a farm in St. Marys Township
in Auglaize County, he was the son of Emil and Alma
(Schroeder) Nieter. On Feb. 22, 1944, he married Mary Ann
Fischer who survives. Other survivors include three children,
Mrs. Don (Peggy) LEUGER and James H. Nieter, both of R.R.1,
New Bremen; Jane Nieter of Columbus; nine grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. Laverne (Gladys) RODEHEFFER of R.R.1, New
Knoxville. Mr. Neiter was a member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles Aerie 767. He belonged to the Home Benefit Association
of New Bremen and the Farm Bureau. He was a member of St.
Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was a partner
in the ownership of the Wayne Street Lounge in St. Marys and
had been engaged in farming for many years. For seven and on-
half years, he had served as an Auglaize County Commissioner.
Services will he held 2 p.m. Monday in the Gilberg Funeral
Home, New Bremen with the Rev. Larry K. May officiating.
Burial will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen.
Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are the American Heart Asoociation or the
Lone Pine Nursing Home activities fund.

Additional Information: Robert E. Golladay Sr. of Fairfield
Drive, Paw Paw, Mich., a former St. Marys resident, died
Wednesday afternoon at Lakeview Community Hospital in Paw
Paw. Born Aug. 11, 1920 in Columbus, he was the son of Dr.
Robert and Alberta Golladay. On Jan. 30, 1942, he married
Anna F. Lavely in Columbus. She survives Other survivors
include a son, Robert E. Golladay Jr. of Paw Paw; one
daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Audrey) MCCORMICK of Allegan, Mich;
three grandchildren, three sisters, Audrey WHITEHEAD of Rapid
City, S.D.; Evelyn VALLEE and Ethel YOUNG, both of Coumbus.
Mr. Golladay was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In
1964, he and his family moved to Paw Paw from St. Marys. He
had been employed as an investigator of the Van Buren County
Friends of the Court. Mr. Golladay was past president of the
Kiwanis Club in Paw Paw. He was a member of the Cove City,
Ohio Masonic Lodge 689; McGowen-Johnson Post 68 American
Legion in Paw Paw; Housing commission and Paw Paw Township
board of Revue. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw with the
Rev. Nelson Lumm officiating. There will be no visitation.
The body has been cremated and will be buried after graveside
services at Galloway Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. Preferred
memorial is the church. Hawley Funeral Home in Paw Paw is in
charge of arrangements.

her in death. Mrs. Wiehe was a member of the New Bremen

Hillcrest, St. Marys, died at 1 a.m. today at the Valley
Nursing Home. He had been ill since April. Born June 4, 1904
in Washington Township, Auglaize County, he was the son of
Henry and Anna (Schroer) Katterhenry. On Jan. 24, 1924, he
married Ida DeLong who survives. Other survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) MYERS of Willoughby Hills,
Ohio; Mrs. Billy (Carolyn) SLEMMONS of St. Marys; five
grandchildren; and one sister, Edna FEIL of St. Marys. One
infant son, five brothers, Edward, Charles, Henry, Gustave
and Edwin; and two sisters, Ida and Hilda preceded him in
death. Mr. Katterhenry was a retired farmer and member of the
Farm Bureau. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Church

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elm
Grove Cemetery for Joseph Lee Hitchen, six week old infant
son of Brian L. and Rebecca Sue (Ball) Hitchen, 201 S. Maple
St., St. Marys. The baby was pronounced dead at 11:41 a.m.
Thursday in the emergency room of Joint Township District
Memorial Hospital. He was transferred to the hospital by the
St. Marys Emergency Squad. He was born May 6, 1982 in JTDMH.
In addition to his parents survivors include two sisters, Kay
Ann Hitchen and Christina Marie Hitchen, both at home;
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. Hitchen and Mr. and Mrs.

Additional Information: Harold M. Cridler, 74, of 838 Circle
Dr., Wapakoneta was dead on arrival at 3:20 a.m. today in
Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was
born Dec.9, 1907 in Wapakoneta, the son of James C. and Anna
(Cook) Cridler. In 1930, he married Kathryn Myers who died
in 1943. On Jan. 11, 1947, he married Ludena Veit, who
survives. A brother Samuel Cridler of Wapakoneta also
survives. Mr. Cridler was a World War II veteran of the
U.S.Army and was a member of the American Legion in
Wapakoneta. He was a member of Harner Lodge 167, Free and
Accepted Masons and was past master; Chapter 183, Royal Arch
Masons; and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. For
40 years, he owned and operated Republic Printing until he
sold the business in 1962. He was also owner of K.
Specialities that made rubber stamps. For the past 15 years,
he worked part time at the Wapakoneta Liquor Store. Services
will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Charles D. Siferd
Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Louis Bell
officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery,

married to Emil H. Brueggeman who preceded her in death Nov.
16, 1960. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Johann (Mary)

Sophia Fischbach, 88, a resident of the Valley Nursing Home
for the past three years, died at 5:35 a.m. Sunday in the
nursing home following complications. She was born March 9,
1891, east of New Knoxville, the daughter of William and
Sophia (Meckstroth) Shuelsmeyer (sic). On April 15, 1915, she
was married to Emil Fischbach, who preceded her in death May
17, 1967. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Opal)
KELLEY of Sidney and Mrs. Wilbur (Marcella "Sally")
TONTRUP of New Bremen; four grandchildren; and six great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers
and three sisters. Mrs. Fischbach was a member of the New
Bremen Senior Citizens and the St. Paul United Church of

services tomorrow. Mrs. Quellhorst died at 10:20 a.m.
Saturday in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Ewald KUCK, 420 S. Washington St., New Bremen, where she
had made her home for the past six months. Death was
attributed to infirmities of age. Born April 15, 1883, in
German Township, west of New Bremen, she was the daughter of
Anton and Rosina (Sollman) Borgeding. On June 20, 1901 she
was married to Ed H. Quellhorst who died Dec. 21, 1967.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs Ewald (Esther) KUCK, 10
grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Della
DRESSEL, five sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Mrs. Quellhorst was a lifelong member of St. Paul United
Church of Christ and moved to New Bremen in 1937. Those
wishing to give memorials are asked to direct them to St.
Paul Church Memorial Fund or the charity of the donor's

Robert J. Koenig, 65, of 109 W. Main St., Wapakoneta, died at

William C. Koenig of R.R.3, Wapakoneta; three sisters, Mrs.
L. M. (Nora) BROWN of Botkins and Clara Koenig and Mrs.
Alfred (Stella) ZINK, both of Wapakoneta; and three brothers,
Leo Koenig of Botkins, Christopher Koenig of Dayton and
Edward Koenig of R.R.4 Wapakoneta. Two brothers, Carl and
Francis, and four half sisters, Cecelia, Philomina, Ida and
Catherine are deceased. Mr. Koenig is a member of the St.
Joseph Catholic Church of Wapakoneta. A Mass of Resurrection
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church with the
Rev. Leonard H. Fullenkamp officiating. Burial will be in
Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins. The family will
receive friends in the Heinl-Long Funeral Home, Wapakoneta,
from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. The rosary will be recited in the

Ronald Cook, 70, Melbourne, Fla., formerly of St. Marys, died
Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Florida Hospital in Orlando,
Fla. He was born July 18, 1930, in Morral, the son of Harold
H. and Joan (Ferguson) Cook. In October 1993, he married Anna
Acosta, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Tony
Cook of Washington, D.C., and Dane (Brenda) Cook of New
Bremen; two stepsons, Will Acosta of Atlanta and Robert
Acosta of Orlando; a stepdaughter, Suzanne (Darrin) MIDDLETON
of Melbourne; two brothers, Dean Cook and Neil Cook, both of
St. Marys; four grandchildren, Cory Cook, Cameron Cook, Jared
Middleton and Madison Middleton and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Cook. Mr. Cook

St., St. Marys, died at 6:07 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at
Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He
was born Oct. 30, 1924, in Covington, Ky., the son of William
and Grace (Arnott) Barnes. On May 12, 1951, he married Melva
Graff, who died April 10, 1997. Survivors include a son, Kist
Charles Barnes of Rockford; a daughter, Deborah VANDERHORST
(and fiance Kevin TOBIAS) of St. Marys; and two
granddaughters, Sara Vanderhorst and Stacy Vanderhorst, both
of St. Marys. He was preceded in death by a brother, George
Barnes. Mr. Barnes, formerly of Cincinnati, moved to St.
Marys in 1979. He was retired from the American Laundry
Manufacturing Co. in Cincinnati, where he was a welding
foreman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in
the Sixth Artillery Division in Europe and Africa during
World War II. He received five Bronze Stars. He was a member
of Eagles Lodge Aerie 767 and a life member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 9289, Disable American Veterans Post 119
and American Legion Post 323, all in St. Marys. He enjoyed
fishing and playing cards. Funeral services will be at 11
a.m. Saturday at the Miller Funeral home in St. Marys with
the Rev. John Wine officiating. Burial will follow at Elm
Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, where graveside military rites
will be conducted jointly by the American Legion and VFW.

Information: Robert H. "Butch" Rempe, 55, Tampa,
Fla, formerly of New Bremen, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at
Tampa V.A. Hospital in Tampa. He was born Dec. 15, 1945 , in
Auglaize County, the son of Robert Rempe Sr. and Pauline
(Schnelle) Rempe. His mother died in 1964 and his father
survives in Minster. His first wife, Kaye TOPP, survives in
Celina. His second wife, Gale Rempe, survives in Tampa. Other
survivors include four daughters, Rene HAMMOND of New Bremen,
Jayne (Rodney) RUWOLDT of Celina and Chryistina Rempe and
Cheyenne Rempe, both of Tampa; five sons, Kenney (Kelly)

St., Wapakoneta, died at 2:07 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001,
at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He died of injuries
resulting from an automobile accident that occurred that
afternoon on Hume Road near Kemp Road in Allen County. He was
born April 1, 1919 in Cloverdale, the son of Theodore and
Margaret (Krieger) Potthoff. On May 25, 1940, he married
Marie P. Diegelman, who survives. Other survivors include a
brother, Edwin (Virginia) Potthoff of Cloverdale; a sister-
in-law, Marcille Potthoff of Norwood; a brother-in-law, Earl
J. KRIETZER of Wapakoneta; and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Potthoff; a
brother-in-law, the Rev. Clarence DIEGELMAN; and two sisters-
in-law, Sister Maurice (Alma) Diegelman C.P.P.S. and Helen
Kreitzer. Mr. Potthoff was retired as manager of the former
Uhlman's store in Wapakoneta after 31 years of employment. He
served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. A

8778 North St., Kettlersville, died at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 1, 1999, at the St. Marys Living Center where she had
been a resident for the past year. She was born on March 7,
1909, just west of Kettlersville in Van Buren Township in
Shelby County to Fred and Henrietta (Roettger) Egbert. On
June 22, 1927, she married Homer A. Kettler, who died May 21,
1990. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law,
Eugene and Ethel Kettler, Roland and Beverly Kettler,
Kettlersville, Larry and Marsha Kay Kettler, Gilbert, Ariz.,
a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and James BLACKWELL,
Clermont, Fla., son-in-law, Ted R. MILLER, Kettlersville, 21
grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, a great-great-
grandchild, five step great-grandchildren, a brother Fred
Egbert, Wapakoneta, sisters and brother-in-law, Marie
ROEDIGER, Kettlersville, and Anna and Si MILSTEAD,
Wapakoneta. She was preceded in death by daughters and son-
in-law, Eileen Miller and Dolores and Joe PEQUIGNOT, a great-
grandchild; two sisters and six brothers. Mrs. Kettler was a
life time member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in
Kettlersville. She was a homemaker. Services will be at 10:30
a.m. Monday at the Immanuel UCC with the Rev. James Melter
officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery, New
Bremen. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Gilberg
Funeral Home in New Bremen and from 9:30 a.m. until the

Knoxville-Arthur Patrick "Arty" Kenny, 18, 100 N.
East St., died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at 6:23 a.m. of
injuries sustained in a traffic accident near St. Henry. (See
story page 1) Born March 12, 1981, in Lima, he was the son of
Arthur P. Kenny III and Thelma M. Wreede. Survivors include
his fiancee, Melissa Swiger of New Knoxville; a son, Dayn
McHale Kenny at home; his mother and her fiance, Thelma
VERMILLION and Ronald STREET of St. Marys; the stepfather,
Ken Vermillion of New Knoxville; and the father and
stepmother, Arthur P. III and Kristi Kenny of Lake Worth,
Fla. Also surviving are a brother, Scott Kenny of St. Marys;
two half-sisters, Cece and Kelsi Kenny of Lake Worth; the
grandparents, Tom and Nancy Wreede of Mohave Valley, Ariz.,
Art and Wilma Kenny of Wapakoneta; and step-grandparents Jim
and Sue Wierwille of New Knoxville. Mr. Kenny was a 1998
graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys. He was
employed at Cooper Foods in St. Henry. Funeral services will

75, 409 Defiance St., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at 6:30
a.m. at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. She had been at
the nursing home a week. She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in
Buckland, daughter of Andrew and Louise (Schneider) Ott. On
December 16, 1943, she was married to Walter J. Lamping. He
died March 8, 1955. On May 5, 1956, she and Harold A. Long
were married. He died April 11, 1978. Survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Michael (Karen) REINHARDT of Murrysville, Pa.,
and a son, Gregory A. Long of Waynesfield; eight
grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; her mother of
Botkins; two brothers, James Ott of New Knoxville, and Leo
Ott of Botkins; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Martha)
SCHWEITZER of Quincy, JoAnn LUDWIG of Botkins, and Mrs. John
(Delores) WILSON of Botkins. A son preceded her in death.
Mrs. Long was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Wapakoneta. She was a homemaker. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with
the Rev. Peter Chiodo officiating. Burial will be in St.
Josoph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Long & Folk

Rodeheffer, 91, 830 Gethsemane Street, died Wednesday, Feb.
3, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. (She was born) in New Knoxville to
Christ and Lena Buddemeyer Schroer. On Feb. 3, 1927 she
married LeRoy Rodeheffer and he died on Feb. 10, 1985. She is
survived by two children: Alice and Richard KITTEL and Wilbur
and Beth Rodeheffer, all of New Bremen; a sister Verneda
EWING of Buckland; a sister-in-law Mildred Schroer of New
Bremen; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was
preceded in death by a granddaughter and brothers Elmer, Emil
and Harvey Schroer and sisters Emily NEUSMEYER and Leona
HESSE. Mrs. Rodeheffer was a member of the First United
Church of Christ in New Knoxville and had formerly belonged
to the Women's Guild of the Church. She was a homemaker and
loved her flower garden. Funeral services will be on Saturday
at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilberg Funeral Home in New Bremen with
the Rev. David Hunt officiaiting. Burial will follow in the

Funeral rites were conducted Thursday afternoon in the
Gilberg and Hegemier funeral home in New Bremen for William
Frederick Frey, 66, former village official and Auglaize co.
commissioner, who died in his residence from a cerebral
hemorrhage. Rev. J.C. Melchart of St. Paul's Church
officiated. Burial was made in the German Protestant
Cemetery. Frey, who had been ill three years and seriously
ill several days was born Oct. 6, 1877 on a farm near New
Bremen, the son of Fred and Elisabeth Groh Frey. He married
Martha Bertram, June 23, 1911 and she is left with three
children, Walter, Dorothy and Marion. Mrs. Laura KUCK of
Detroit is a sister. A former Auglaize Co. commisioner two
terms, later marshal of the village and after that street
commissioner for several years, Frey suffered a stroke while
attending a council meeting in May 1942 and had been an
invalid since that time. He suffered another stroke a week
before his death. After many years of farming Mr. and Mrs.
Frey came to New Bremen to live 24 years ago. He was a member
of Zion Evangelical and Reformed church and had served as a
member of the church consistory.

at 9 o'clock Friday morning at his home there. He is known to
many Auglaize countians, having formerly lived in this
county. Surviving him are his wife, one son, Harold, at home,
two brothers, John Rain, St. Marys R.R.3, and Fred Rain,
Wapakoneta, and two sisters, Mrs Henry Warner and Miss Emma
Rain, both of New Knoxville. A brother, Henry, died last
summer at Wapakoneta. Funeral services are arranged for 2
o'clock Monday afternoon at the Dick & Son Funeral Home,
Celina. Burial will be Greenlawn cemetery, Wapakoneta.

McCullough, 63, Knierim Road, died Wenesday, April 28, 1999,
at Lima Memorial Hospital, following a 14 year battle with
cancer. She was born Oct. 25, 1935, in Piqua, daughter of
Carl and Ida (Telljohn) Headapohl. On April 12, 1958, she
was married to James A. McCullough. He survives with three
daughters, Susan McCullough and Linda WALKER, both of New
Knoxville, and Patricia McCullough of Sidney; four
grandchildren; two brothers, Richard JENKINS of Piqua, and
Don MOORE of Greenville; four sisters, Mrs. David (Linda)

Additional Information: John C. Westerbeck, 81, Port
Charlotte, Fla, formerly of Hardin and Anna, died Tuesday,
Feb. 23, 1999, at his residence. He and his family moved to
Dunedin, Fla., in 1973 and the Port Charlotte area in 1980.
He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in New Bremen, son of Irwin and
Alma (Heil) Westerbeck. Survivors include his wife of 57
years, the former Helen Shannon; three daughters, Mrs. Rex
(Judith) MCVICKER of Akron, Mrs. Robert "Carp"
CARPENTER of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Jill Westerbeck of
Lowell, Ind.; three grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Dayton; two sisters,
Marjorie SCHMIDT of St. Marys, and Lois STAMMEN of North
Star. Mr. Westerbeck was regional manager at Countrymark in
Dublin for over 30 years and during those years he was safety
director of Ravenna. He was a past president of the Ravenna
Chamber of Commerce; a former member of the Shelby County
Board of Education; an active member and treasurer for many
years of the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club; was president emeritus
of the Kiwanis Foundation of Charlotte County; and had in
past years served as a board member of the Youth Museum of
Charlotte County. He was a member of the United
Congregational United Church of Christ in Punta Gorda, Fla.,
where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
William Klossner officiating. Burial will be in Charlotte
Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda. Memorials may be made to the
Kiwanis Foundation of Charlotte County, P.O.Box 777, Punta
Gorda, Fla. 33951. Arrangements are being handled by the
Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home in Punta Gorda.
