Lima, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday,
November 27, 2000, at Lost Creek Care Center, in Lima. She
was born April 7, 1929, in New Washington, the daughter of
Bert and Julie (NORTHORP) CHANEY. She was married to Ralph
Burr JOSEPH and later married William Carl BROWN Jr., both of
whom preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons,
William Carl (Nancy) BROWN Jr., Gregory Lynn (Sue) BROWN,
David Edward (Nancy) BROWN and Donald Allen (Shawne) BROWN,
all of Lima, and Ralph Arthur (Angela) BROWN of Wapakoneta;
three daughters, Cecelia Ann (Eugene) CONAWAY, Donalda Kay
(Tim) MARTIN and Cheryl Lee (Robin) BOWERSOCK, all of Lima;
16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-
grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel
COTTERMAN. A homemaker, Mrs. BROWN was an avid bingo player
and enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles and cooking.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff &
Son Funeral Home in Cridersville with the Rev. Ed. Tobin
officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to
the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Additional Information: Paul ESCHMEYER, 78, Cleveland,
formerly of New Knoxville, died at his home Saturday, Nov.
25, 2000. He was the son of Julius and Aurelia ESCHMEYER of
New Knoxville. He married Betty ESCHMEYER, who survives in
Cleveland. Other survivors include two sisters, Dorothy
(Fred) BRAUN of Cleveland and Alberta (Jay) BUTLER of
Columbus; seven children, five in the Cleveland area and two
in Cincinnati; and several cousins, including Twylah THOMAS
and Donna LARSON, both of New Knoxville. Mr. ESCHMEYER
graduated from New Knoxville School in 1940. Services will be
Wednesday in Cleveland. The body will be cremated.

Wapakoneta, died at 9:34 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at St.
Rita's Medical Center in Lima. She was born Jan. 2, 1948, in
Auglaize County, the daughter of Clarence and Alvena (KAYLOR)
KINSTLE. On June 20, 1970, she married William L.
"Bill" WEBB, who survives. Other survivors include
a son, Michael L. WEBB of Lima; a daughter, Cathy A.
(Johnnie) NASH of Lima; five brothers, Jim KINSTLE of Delphos
and Dale KINSTLE, Steven KINSTLE, Tom KINSTLE and Dan
KINSTLE, all of Wapakoneta; a sisters, Shirley TRAUTMAN of
Tiffin; and a grandson, Johnnie D. NASH JR. She was preceded
in death by her parents; a daughter, Charlotte N. WEBB; a
brother, Dave KINSTLE; and a grandchild, Dylan J. NASH. Mrs.
WEBB was kitchen manager of the Old Barn Out Back in Lima and
worked for 15 years as kitchen manager for the Chalet Inn in
Wapakoneta. She was formerly kitchen manager at Perkins
restaurant in Lima and Dodge City restaurant in Wapakoneta. A
1966 graduate of Wapakoneta High School, who was a member of
St. John's Catholic Church in Freyburg. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shawnee Chapel of
Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes in Lima with the Rev.
Oscar H. Seger officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph
Cemetery, in Wapakoneta. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m.
today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American
Kidney Foundation.

DEERHAKE, 88, formerly of 501 N. Front Street, St. Marys,
died at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the Baldwin Manor
Nursing Home in Kenton, where she had been a patient for four
years. She was born March 6, 1912, in Decatur, Ind., the
daughter of Thomas and Lucille (GESSINGER) ANDREWS. On Sept.
4, 1937, she married Alonzo DEERHAKE, who died April 5, 1991.
Survivors include a grandson, Michael (Shelly) FANNON of
Kenton; a granddaughter, Luanne (Bryan) KUCK of New
Knoxville; and four great-grandchildren. Amanda and
Christopher FANNON of Kenton and Devin and Zachary KUCK of
New Knoxville. She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Sandra FANNON, who died in 1984, and two brothers, Thurman
ANDREWS and Noel ANDREWS. A homemaker, Mrs. DEERHAKE was a
member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys.
She was a graduate of Decatur High School in Decatur, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller
Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. Joachim Wilck
officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St.
Marys. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at
the funeral home.

73, of R.1, New Knoxville, died at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday in Joint
Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, of
complications. She had been a patient at the hospital for six
weeks. Born in Anna, Jan. 7, 1907, she was the daughter of
Samuel and Elizabeth (HUELSMEYER) ENGLE. She married on March
3, 1926 to Homer KRUSE who preceded her in death in 1955. She
remarried on Aug. 19, 1958 to Noah SETTLAGE, who survives
her. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Roland (Lois)
YINGER, of Wapakoneta; a son, Lester KRUSE, of New Knoxville;
two stepsons, the Rev. Robert SETTLAGE, of Jacksontown,
Lester SETTLAGE of St. Marys; four step-daughters, Mrs.
Lester (Leah) KRUSE, of New Knoxville; Mrs. Roger (Marilee)

the Rev. Richard W. Sather officiating. Burial will be in
Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville. Friends may call at the
Vornholt Funeral Home, New Knoxville, from 1 to 9 p.m.

SCHROEDER, 77, formerly of 503 W. South St., New Knoxville,
died at 3:50 a.m. today in Joint Township District Memorial
Hospital of a stroke. He had been a patient of Auglaize Acres
in Wapakoneta since February 19 1979. He was born May 2, 1903
northeast of New Knoxville, the son of Charles and Anna
(ESCHMEYER) SCHROEDER. On Aug. 24, 1927, he married Lydia
SETTLAGE who died May 6, 1978. Survivors include two
daughters, Dorothy EGAN of New Knoxville; Mrs. Reuben (Lois)
EVERSMAN of Huntington, Ind.; two sons, Charles of Delaware
and John of R.R.1, New Knoxville; 11 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. A grandson and two sisters, Selma GRUEVE
and Evelyn SCHROER, preceded him in death. Mr. SCHROEDER
directed the Auglaize County CROP Drive for many years. He
was a very active member of the First United Church of Christ
in New Knoxville. He was a retired farmer. Services will be
held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Richard
W. Sather officating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe
Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and until
11 a.m. Saturday at Vornholt Funeral Home, New Knoxville. The
body will then be moved to the church to lie in state until
the time of the services. Preferred memorial is CROP.

Additional Information: Michael Lloyd SCHROEDER, 24, of
Milford, Mich., died at 6 a.m. Wednesday in the Oakland
County Memorial Care Facility, Pontiac, Mich. His death was
the result of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He has
been in a coma for two years and three months. Born Aug. 9,
1954, in New Knoxville, he was the son of Charles and Janice
(EVERSMAN) SCHROEDER, who reside in Delaware. Other survivors
include two brothers, Robin, a student at Adrian, Mich., and
Joseph of Delaware; paternal grandfather, Lawrnece SCHROEDER
of New Knoxville; and maternal grandparents. Mrs. and Mrs.
Raymond (Aurora) EVERSMAN of New Knoxville. Mr SCHROEDER was
a member of the Milford Presbyterian Church, Milford, Mich.
He was a 1972 graduate of Milford High School and attended
Michigan State University. He was active in the Michigan
Appaloosa Horse Club. Services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the
Presbyterian Church, Milford, Mich, and 2 2 p.m. Saturday in
the Vornholt Funeral Home, New Knoxville, with the Rev.
Richard W. Sather officating. Burial will be in Pilger Ruhe
Cemetery, New Knoxville. The family will receive friends in

Additional Information: New Knoxville-John L. SCHROEDER,
12071 Moulton-New Knoxville Road, died of malignant melanoma
at 9:24 a.m Wednesday, April 13, 1994, at Joint Township
District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was born Sept. 17,
1943, on the farm where he lived to Lawrence and Lydia
(SETTLAGE) SCHROEDER. On Nov. 16, 1963, he married Patricia
MECKSTROTH, who survives. He is also survived by three
daughters, Mrs. John (Deborah) KATTERHEINRICH, New Knoxville;
Teresa SCHROEDER, Anna; Mrs. Ben (Jill) BAUMER, Minster, a
son, Darin, New Knoxville; three granddaughters, Kara and
Jessica KATTERHEINRICH and Meghan BAUMER; two sisters,
Dorothy EGAN, New Knoxville; Mrs. Reuben (Lois) EVERSMAN,
LaPorte, Ind.; and a brothers, Charles, Delaware, Ohio. He
was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Mr. SCHROEDER was a farmer and a machinist at Crown Equipment
in New Bremen. He was an avid sports fan and a member of the
Washington Township Zoning Board. He was a member of First
United Church of Christ where he was a past deacon and
trustee. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church
with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be in
Pilger Ruhe Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m.
Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys and after 9 a.m.
Saturday at the church. The preferred memorial is to the
church radio fund.

Toledo resident, Frederick SETTLAGE, age 67, of 726 Johnson
St., died Sunday, May 27, 1990, at 2:44 p.m. in Mercy
Hospital, Toledo. Born May 26, 1923, in Washington Township,
Auglaize County, he was the son of Theodore and Selma
(WIETHOFF) SETTLAGE. Survivors include five brothers, Emil
SETTLAGE of Torrence, Calif., Richard SETTLAGE of Kenton,
Andrew SETTLAGE of Jackson Center and Ben and Roger SETTLAGE
of New Knoxville; and one sister, Mrs. Martha GEISER of
Toledo. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Mr. SETTLAGE was a member of the First United Church of
Christ, New Knoxville. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday in the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home with Rev.
Jon R. Coddington officiating. Burial will follow in Pilger

Obituary / Additional Information: Theodore F. SETTLAGE,
56, residing two miles northwest of New Knoxville on State
Route 54, was almost instantly killed about 9 p.m. Sunday
when he was struck and thrown from a bicycle near his home by
an auto driven by Alfred Henschen, a neighbor. Mr. SETTLAGE
was enroute home from attending evening services at the First
Evangelical Reformed church at New Knoxville. Mr. HENSCHEN
stopped his auto after the accident and took the injured man
to a nearby farmhouse according to a report made to Coroner
A.W. Veit. Dr. Robert Slusher of New Knoxville was called and
he found life extinct. Both bicycle and auto were reported
preceeding towards St. Marys and the driver did not see
SETTLAGE until too late, being blinded by lights from an
approaching car. Mr. SETTLAGE resided in the neighberhood
between New Knoxville and St. Marys all his life and was
regarded as one of the substantial farmers of that area. He
was a son of Fred E. and Mary WIERWILLE SETTLAGE and was born
September 17, 1888. His parents are deceased. Surviving him
are his wife, Mrs. Selma WIETHOFF SETTLAGE, a patient at a
Toledo hospital, and six sons, Emil, Richard, Benjamin,
Frederick, Andrew and Roger, and a daughter, Martha, all
residing in the parental community. Three children died in
infancy. Brothers and sisters, surviving are Louis H.
SETTLAGE, residing nearby; Rev. William SETTLAGE, St. Louis,
Mo.; Mrs. Henry HILGEMAN, Bay City;, Mich., and Mrs. Sophia
BUCKLOH, near New Knoxville. He was a member of the First
Evangelical and Reformed church at New Knoxville church at
New Knoxville. Funeral services have been arranged for 2 p.m.
Wednesday at the First Evangelical Reformed church, the Rev.
O.B. Moor, pastor, in charge. Burial in Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.

Meranda Road, Maplewood and formerly of New Knoxville,
Delphos and Sidney, died Tuesday, April 20, 1993, at 3:45
p.m. in Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati. He had suffered
a heart attack in Cincinnati on April 18, 1993. He was born
September 28, 1924, in Washington Township, Auglaize County,
the son of Theodore and Selma (WIETHOFF) SETTLAGE. On April
21, 1989, he married Joan STOKES LEE, who survives. Survivors
also include two daughters, Mrs. James (Andra) MCKIBBEN and
Susan SETTLAGE FISHER, both of Lima; one son, Brad Allen
SETTLAGE of Lima; one grandson, Chad Anthony FISHER of Lima;
four step-sons, Thomas LEE of Sidney, Victor LEE of Conover,
Anthony LEE of Ft. Carson, Colorado, and Bruce LEE of Troy;
six step-daughters, Joyce LEE and Priscilla STONE both of
Woodbridge, Virginia, Mrs. Richard (Brenda) TAYLOR of
Bellefontaine, Mrs. Paul (Pamela) MONROE of Springfield, Mrs.
Anthony (Paula) CONO of Vandalia, and Mrs. Byron (Linda)
COATS of Sidney; and 30 step-grandchildren. He is also
survived by four brothers, Emil SETTLAGE of Torrence,
California, Richard SETTLAGE of Kenton and Ben SETTLAGE and
Roger SETTLAGE, both of New Knoxville; one sister, Martha
GEISER of Toledo; and his mother-in-law, Mildred PETTY of
West Liberty. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael R.
SETTLAGE, aod one brother, Frederick SETTLAGE. Mr. SETTLAGE
was employed by Baumfolder Corporation, Sidney, until his
retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Church of God, St.
Paris and was a former member of the United Methodist Church,
Delphos. He served with the U. S. Navy in the European
theater during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 3316, Jackson Center; American Legion Post
217, Sidney; AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview; and Fraternal Order of
Eagles Aerie 1403, Sidney. He was a graduate of New Knoxville
High School. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at
the United Methodist Church, New Knoxville, with Rev. James
L. FLeming, pastor of the Church of God, St. Paris,
officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery,
Delphos, where full military rites will be conducted by VFW
Post 3316. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friday in Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys Chapel,

daughter-in-law, Ben and Lisa, with whom she made her home;

death by two brothers, Frederick and Andrew. Mrs. GEISER was
raised by her grandmother, Elizabeth WIETHOFF, in New
Knoxville. She was a registered nurse and did home nursing.
She recently moved to Columbus from Toledo. Viewing and
services will be at noon Thursday at Emmanuel United Brethern
Church in Toledo. Burial will be in Spingfield Township
Cemetery in Toledo.

in Bluffton. She was born Sept. 18, 1902, in Auglaize County,

1923, she married Thomas Dwight SIDENER, who died Feb. 15,

a son, Glen (Wanda) SIDENER of Waynesfield; six

formerly of New Bremen, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at 12:55
a.m. at the Shawnee Manor Nursing Home in Lima, where she had
been a resident for the past three years. She was born Sept.
16, 1913, near New Bremen, the daughter of Henry and Lydia
(HEITKAMP) BUSHMAN. On Feb. 23, 1938, she married Howard
RUESE, who died Jan. 14, 1970. Survivors include a son,
Donald (Carol) RUESE of New Bremen; a daughters, Lois (Carl)
RABLEY of Elida; two sisters-in-law, Viola BUSHMAN and
Florence BUSHMAN, both of New Bremen; a brother-in-law,
Howard WELLMAN of New Knoxville; five grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister,
Lillian EGBERT; three brothers, Ferdinand, William and
Richard BUSHMAN; and a grandson, Brent RABLEY. Mrs. RUESE was
a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New
Bremen. She was also a member of the New Bremen Senior
Citizens and worked with the Coupon refund group at the
Auglaize School. A graduate of the New Bremen High School and
the St. Marys Business College, she was a homemaker and
worked in various clerical positions. She enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St.
Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with the Rev. John
W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be in the German
Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Friends may call from 4 to

Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind., following a
sudden illness. He was born July 29, 1924, in Bicknell, Ind.,
the son of Frank and Nellie (THOMPSON) PHILLIPPE. On Nov. 3,
1947, he married Ivah Jean FOX, who survives. Other survivors
include a daughter, Sharon (Jim) GILBERT of St. Marys; two
sons, Billy (Dianna) PHILLIPPE and John (and close friend
Donna MORRIS) PHILLIPPE, both of St. Marys; four sisters,
Norma (Bob) STOUT of Sullivan, Mo., and Marjorie (Bob) MYERS,
Phyllis (Paul) MEMORING and Carolyn PHILLIPPE, all of
Bicknell, Ind.; a brother, Bob (Dorothy) PHILLIPPE of Dayton;
a sister-in-law, Norma PHILLIPPE of Toledo; six
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two close fishing
buddies, Bob COEHICK and John MULLIGAN. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Gordon PHILLIPPE. Mr. PHILLIPPE was a
veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was retired from the City of Oakwood Police Department. He
had been a volunteer for Box 21 Ambulance Service in Dayton

Mr. DORSTEN was a veteran of the U.S., Army, having served as

Administration Hospital in Chillicothe due to a disability. A
1944 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, he was a
member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Glynwood. A

St., St. Marys, was found dead at his residence Wednesday,
Dec. 6, 2000. The cause of death is unknown pending autopsy
results from the Lucas County Regional Crime Laboratory. He
was born Aug. 31, 1954, in St. Marys, the son of Leon and
Carol (GERLICH) STOKER. He married Tammy MUNCHER and they
were later divorced. She survives in St. Marys. Other
survivors include a son, Corey STOKER, who is serving in the
U.S. Marine Corps n Jacksonville, N.C.; three brothers, Tom
STOKER, Brent (Pat) STOKER and Mark STOKER, all of St. Marys;
and two sisters, Sue MOYAR and Kathy (Danny) MULLLINS, both
of St. Marys. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr.
STOKER was employed by the City of St. Marys where he had
worked in the General Services Department for 17 years. A
1973 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he was a
member of Eagles Lodge 767 in St. Marys and a former member

3:12 p.m. Monday in Joint Township District Memorial Hospital
following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 17, 1912, in
New Knoxville, the son of Henry and Margaret RAIN WARNER. On
May 9, 1935, he married Helen TONTRUP, who survives. Mr.
WARNER was involved in farming from 1935 until 1948 when he
opened Warner's Garage in New Knoxville. He retired in 1975.
He had served on the New Knoxville Village Council for 12
years and had been a volunteer fireman for 15 years. He was a
member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen
where he was a former deacon and had been a member of the

Knoxville-Dr. Victor Paul WIERWILLE, founder of The Way
International, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday at his home at The
Way headquarters following a brief illness. He was 68 years
old.......Wierwille was born December 31, 1916, on the same
farm outside of New Knoxville that later became The Way
International headquarters. He was the son of Ernst and Emma
WIERWILLE. He married Dorothea KIPP, who survives. Survivors
also include two sons, Donald Ernest WIERWILLE of New
Knoxville and John Paul WIERWILLE of New Bremen; three
daughters, Mrs. James (Karen) MARTIN of Houston, Texas, Mrs.
John (Mary) SOMERVILLE of North Fork, Calif., and Mrs. Kevin

Additional Information: Henry H. SCHNELLE, R.R.1, New
Knoxville, died Friday at 11:35 p.m. at the age of 86 at the
Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home where he had been admitted as a
patient that morning. He died of complications developing
from injuries suffered in an automobile accident which
happened February 27 just south of Wapakoneta on the Hardin
Pike. His wife, the former Edna ESCHMEYER, to whom he was
married on May 13, 1913, died in that accident. Mr. SCHNELLE
was born March 19, 1886 in Auglaize County the son of Carl
and Caroline SCHNELLE. He was a farmer and a member of the
First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville. Surviving him
are five children, Mrs. Wesley (Zippora) AUFDERHAAR, R.R.1,
New Knoxville, Norman SCHNELLE, New Knoxville, Kermit
SCHNELLE, R.R.1, Waynesfield, and Virgil and Myron SCHNELLE,
both of New Bremen; eight grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; and the following sisters and brother; Mrs.

been a resident for the past two years. His death followed an
illness of four weeks. He was born May 19, 1894, in Hinton,
W. Va., the son of Tazwell and Mary Belle (BREEDING) GRAY. He
was married Jan 1, 1924 to Minta Jane HARMON, who preceded
him in death on Sept 22, 1974. He is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Thomas (Nell) KIHM of Dayton; a son, Jack E. GRAY of St.
Marys; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
two half-sisters, Erma EBER and Mae EBER, both of Ohio City.
Mr. GRAY was a retired house painter. He was a former member
of the First Nazarene Church in Lima and had attended the
Gospel Mission Church in St. Marys. His funeral services will
be at 4 p.m. Friday in Yoder Long and Folk Funeral Home, St.
Marys, with the Rev. Clair W. Bailey officiating. The family
will receive friends in the funeral home for two hours (2-4

HOWE, 72, of 201 Walnut ST., New Knoxville, died Wednesday,
Oct. 17, 1984 at 4:15 p.m. at Joint Township District
Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, where he had been a patient for
one week. He had been ailing from a heart condition for the
past two years and had been a patient at the Valley Nursing
Home, St. Marys, for the past several weeks. He was born Dec.
15, 1911 in Kettlersville, the son of Henry and Sarah
(HUELSMEYER) HOWE. He was married on Sept. 3, 1938 to Agnes
KATTERHEINRICH who survives. Also surviving are two sons,
Ronald HOWE of Jonesboro, Ind. and Nicholis HOWE of
Coldwater; four grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers,
Erma GRIEVES of Botkins and Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) INGRAM of

Bremen. A sister, Elda FUNK and a brother, Virgil HOWE are
both deceased Mr. HOWE was a member of the United Methodist
Church of New Knoxville. He had owned and operated Chic's
Grocery in New Knoxville for 30 years until his retirement in
January 1977. His services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in
the church with the Rev. James WAUGH officiating. Burial will

"Bud" SPIELER Jr., 85, St. Marys, died at 6:18 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Joint Township District Memorial
Hospital. He was born May 25, 1915, at the family home in
Celina, the fifth child and first son of August Joseph and
Bertha (PULSKAMP) SPIELER. On June 23, 1979, he married his
second wife, Louise, who survives. He was previously married
to Catherine KNISLEY of Lima. Other survivors include a son,
Joe(Carolyn) SPIELER of New York; two sisters, Mary Kay
WILSON of Boston and Madge NIEMER of Cincinnati; a stepson,
James A. CASSEL; a stepdaughter, Donna STEPHAN; a grandson,
August Joseph SPIELER of Centerville, Va.; a granddaughter,
Courtney CRANSTON SPIELER KOLB of London, England; two step

Rosemary, Anita, Margie and Virginia and a brother, Luke. Mr.
SPIELER attended grammar school at Immaculate Conception in
Celina and graduated from Celina Catholic High School in
1933. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Miami
University in Oxford, graduating in 1937. After college he
served in World War II as an officer in the U.S. Army
Chemical Corps. He returned to Celina to work in his father's
business, the Celina Stearic Acid Co. He was later president
of the company. Prior to his retirement, he provided
accounting and tax services to local businesses and
organizations. Mr. SPIELER was a member of the Republican
State Central and Executive Committee of Ohio from the Fourth
Congressional District in the 1950s He was also active for
many years in the Lions Clubs of Celina and Lima and other
civic organizations. He lived in Lima from 1958 to 1970. A
Memorial Mass was held Wednesday at the Holy Rosary Caholic
Church in St. Marys in the Rev. David Heinl officiating.

Charles B. HEPLER, 86, Wapakoneta, died in the morning of
Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 13,
1914, in Lima, the son of Oran and Bessie May (EAST) HEPLER.
He lived in Wapakoneta for many years. Survivors include two
brothers, James HEPLER of Lima and Oran "Bill"
HEPLER of Columbus; several nieces and nephews and his
caregivers, Troy and Peggy HICKS of Wapakoneta. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Robert HEPLER; and four
sisters, Elizabeth CHENEY, Anna STEACH, Dola GESSLER and Dora
YAZEL. Mr. HEPLER was a mechanic at Tilton Corp. in Lima.

brief illness. He was born July 14, 1930 at Clarksburg,

NAGEL, 77, Toledo, formerly of Minster, died Wednesday, Dec.
13, 2000, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He
was born July 13, 1923, in Minster, the son of Charles and
Odellia (SCHWIETERMAN) NAGEL. He was a graduate of Minster
High school. Survivors include three sons, Bernard E. NAGEL
Jr. of Perrysburg and Kent (Tina) E. NAGEL and John E. NAGEL,
both of Toledo; a daughter, Pam NAGEL of Atlanta; a step-son,
Jim (Sharon) BIGLEY of Archbold; a stepdaughter, Janice
MCCRACKEN of North JACKSON; five brothers, Robert (Donna)
NAGEL and Stanley (Jo Anne) NAGEL, both of New Bremen, Bud
(Ruth) NAGEL of Dayton, Herb NAGEL of Moraine and Charles
(Bertha) NAGEL of Germantown; two sisters, JoAnne (John)
KORTE of Marion and Mary (Jim) BROWN of Minster; and two
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald
NAGEL and a sister, Lucille NAGEL. Mr. NAGEL worked as a tool
and diemaker for 24 years at the former Electric Autolite in
Toledo and later for 18 years at the Dura Corp., also in
Toledo, retiring in 1989. A decorated veteran of World War
II, he was one of seven sons who was inducted into the U.S.
Army, serving three years in the medical and air corps
division. He was very proud of his military service and a
champion of veterans' rights and benfits. He was a member of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Erie Post 3924, VFW National Home,
VFW Scotland School and Minster Historical Society and a life
member of Dads of Foreign Services Veterans 208 for which he
served as national president for two years. A licensed pilot,
he had an avid interest in aviation. Funeral services will be
at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Sujkowski Funeral Home, Northplate, in
Toledo with the Rev. Arthur Badger officiating. Friends may
call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where
members of VFW Erie Post 3925 will hold a service at 4 p.m. A
military Committal Service will be at noon Monday at Fort
Custer National Cemetery, in Augusta, Mich. Memorials may be

EVERSMAN, age 72, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 1
o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the family residence one and a
half miles southeast of New Knoxville. He had been in failing
health for some time but recently had appeared to be
improving and his death came as a shock. Mr. EVERSMAN was
engaged in farming all of his life and was widely known and
well liked in this community. He was born April 3, 1871, a
son of the late Herman and Elsian EVERSMAN. On November 5,
1895, he married Anna SETTLAGE and she is left to mourn his
death together with four sons, Wesley, at home, Walter,
Wapakoneta, Rev. Florenz H., Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Arnold
EVERSMAN, Dayton. There are 11 grandchildren. Three brothers
and a sister are George, New Bremen; Fred, Toledo; and
Phillip EVERSMAN, Kettlersville, and Mrs. Sarah KOGGE,
Jacksonville, Fla. There are a great many friends. He was a
member of the First Evangelical Reformed church. Funeral
services are arranged for Friday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock at
the Evangelical-Reformed church with Dr. D.A. Bode
officiating. Burial will be in Pilger Ruhe cemetery. Friends
may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the residence.

25-Mrs. Anna Sophia EVERSMAN, age 74, widow of Henry
EVERSMAN, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her son,
Rev. F.H. EVERSMAN, in Mr. Vernon, Ind. She had been ill with
a complication of diseases for several years. Mrs. EVERSMAN
was the daughter of the late William and Mary KATTERHEINRICH
SETTLAGE and was born Sept. 30, 1874, north of New Knoxville.
On Nov. 5, 1895, she was married to Henry EVERSMAN and they
lived most of their married life on a farm southeast of New
Knoxville. His death occurred on Feb. 15, 1944, just a year
before they were to have observed their golden wedding. Left
to mourn Mrs. EVERSMAN's death are four sons, Walter of
Wapakoneta; Rev. Florenz H., of Mr. Vernon, Ind.; Wesley, of
near New Knoxville on New Bremen R.R.1; and Arnold EVERSMAN,
of Dayton. There are twelve grandchildren. Two brothers and
two sisters are William J. SETTLAGE, St. Marys R.R.1; Rev.
Henry G. SETTLAGE, Waukesa, Wis.; Mrs. John F. GEIGER, St.
Marys, and Mrs. Lewis WEHMEYER, of New Bremen R.R.1. There
are many relatives and friends. Mrs. EVERSMAN was a member of
the First Evangelical and Reformed church here and of the
German Bible Class and the Woman's Society, taking an active
part in the church and Sunday School as long as her health
permitted. Her body will be brought from Mr. Vernon, Ind., to
the Vornholt Bros. Funeral Home at New Bremen, from where it
will be taken Saturday morning to the home of her son,
Wesley, near New Knoxville. Friends may call at the Eversman
Home Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday until the hour
of the services. The funeral services will be held Sunday
afternoon at 1:30 at the Eversman residence and at 2 o'clock
at the First Evangelical and Reformed church with Dr. D.A.
Bode officiating. Burial will take place in Pilger Ruhe
cemetery.

Additional Information: New Knoxville-Wesley F. EVERSMAN, 75,
R.R.1, died Wednesday at 2:25 p.m. at the Miami Valley
Hospital in Dayton. He had been hospitalized several days. He
was born Feb. 25, 1904, in Shelby County, son of Henry and
Anna (SETTLAGE) EVERSMAN. On April 26, 1927, he married the
former Viola KUCK. She survives with two sons, the Rev.
Reuben EVERSMAN of Huntington, Ind., and Roger of New
Knoxville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a
brother, Walter of Wapakoneta. A son and two brothers
preceded him in death. Mr. EVERSMAN was a member of the New
Knoxville First United Church of Christ. He was a retired
farmer. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the church
with the Rev. Richard W. Sather officiating. Burial will be
in the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery near New Knoxville. Friends may
call at the Vornholt Funeral home in New Knoxville, Friday
from 1 to 9 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 11:30 a.m.
until the hour of services. The family has requested
memorials be made to the Heart Fund.

E. EVERSMAN, 86, 19377 Fledderjohann Road, died at 6:55 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 4, 1993, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys. She
was born Feb. 27, 1907, in Auglaize County to Theodore and
Sarah (LAMMERS) KUCK. On April 26, 1927, she married Wesley
F. EVERSMAN, who died in 1979. She is survived by two sons,
Reuben, LaPorte, Ind.; Roger, New Knoxville; nine
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs.
Albert (Marcella) CLAUSING, New Knoxville; Mrs. Frank
(Adella) WILSON, Jackson Center; and a brother, Harold, North
Miami, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin, in a
farm accident in 1942; and two brothers, Sylvanus and Orloe.
Mrs. EVERSMAN was a homemaker. She was a member of First
United Church of Christ, its Women's Guild and was Sunday
School teacher. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the
church with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be
in Pilger Ruhe Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. Thursday at Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home. The
preferred memorial is to the Church radio broadcast fund.

New Knoxville, July 10, Marvin W. EVERSMAN, 14 year old son
of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley EVERSMAN, southeast of here, was
killed almost instantly Thursday afternoon when he fell from
a farm wagon being used to haul wheat from the field into the
barn for thrashing. The tragic accident happened at 1:15
o'clock. The youth was riding on the wagon, partly loaded,
when he is believed to have lost his balance. He toppled off
head-first, his head striking a wagon wheel. He received a
head injury and a broken neck which proved fatal within a few
minutes after the accident occurred. Marvin was born Nov. 29,
1927, a son of Wesley and Viola KUCK EVERSMAN, both of whom
survive. Left to mourn his death besides the bereaved parents
are two younger brothers, Reuben and Roger Paul, his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. EVERSMAN and Mr. and Mrs.
Theodore H. KUCK. There are many other relatives and friends
who join the family in mourning his death. The youth was a
pupil in New Knoxville high school where he had taken an
active part in school activities. He was a member of the
school band and had played on the baseball team,
participating wholeheartedly in these organizations. Marvin
was a member of the First Evangelical Reformed church and its
Sunday school. He belonged to the Young People's society and
sang in the organizations choir. Funeral services are
arranged for Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the family
residence and at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical Reformed church
with Dr. D.A. Bode officiating. Burial will take place in
Pilger Ruhe cemetery. Friends may call any time Saturday
afternoon and evening at the home.

Additional Information: Wesley EVERSMAN, R.R.1, New
Knoxville, received word yesterday of the sudden death of his
brother, Arnold EVERSMAN, age 55, at Dayton. Mr. EVERSMAN
died of a heart attack at his home at 4214 Arcadia Blvd.,
Dayton. Mr. EVERSMAN is survived by his wife, the former
Lucille DENNINGS, one daughter, Loretta EVERSMAN, of Pontiac,
Mich., one son, John EVERSMAN, of Fairborn, O., three
grandchildren, and two brothers, Wesley of New Knoxville
R.R.1 and Walter EVERSMAN, of Wapakoneta. A brother, the Rev.
F.H. EVERSMAN is deceased. He was employed as a meat cutter
at a Dayton super market. Mr. EVERSMAN was born near New
Knoxville, a son of the late Henry and Anna SETTLAGE
EVERSMAN. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the
Presbyterian Church, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Weaver Funeral Home, 1029 North
Main Street, Dayton. Burial will take place in Beaver
cemetery there. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and
evening at the funeral home.

6, Fred W. EVERSMAN, age 69, of Toledo, died at 3:50 o'clock
Friday afternoon at Toledo after an extended illness with
complications due to diabetes. Just recently he had submitted
to an operation for the removal of his leg in the hopes of
staying gangrenous infection. Mr. EVERSMAN was a native of
Shelby county, near New Knoxville. He was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Herman EVERSMAN and was born on July 22, 1875.
He married Mrs. Dora KUCK who preceded him in death on July
17, 1943. Survivors are one stepson, Noah KUCK, Toledo, with
whom he made his home, a brother, George EVERSMAN, of New
Bremen and a sister, Mrs. Henry KOGGE, Florida. A son, Harry,
lost his life by drowning a few months ago in Lake Erie. His
body will be brought from Toledo to the home of his nephew,
Wesley EVERSMAN, one and a half miles southeast of New
Knoxville, where friends may call Saturday evening. Funeral
services are arranged for Sunday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock
at the Wesley Eversman residence and 2 o'clock at the
Methodist church in New Knoxville with Dr. George H. Smith
officiating. Burial will be in Pilger Ruhe cemetery.

New Knoxville, July 19. Mrs. Fred EVERSMAN, age 68, of
Toledo, died at 3 o'clock, Saturday afternoon at her home in
that city, death being due to a heart attack. She was a
native of New Knoxville where she was born on March 16, 1875,
as a daughter of the late Solomon and Elizabeth EISLEY
KATTERHEINRICH. Left to mourn her death are her husband, Fred
EVERSMAN, and two children, Noah KUCK and Harry EVERSMAN, of
Toledo. There are two grandchildren. Brothers and sisters
surviving are Mrs. B.G. KATTERHEINRICH, New Knoxville, Mrs.

her brother, Elmer, at New Knoxville. Friends may call there
Tuesday evening. Funeral services are arranged for Wednesday
afternoon at the Elmer KATTERHEINRICH home and at 1 o'clock
