Obituary / Additional
Information: Passed to the spirit life, from near St. Marys,
O, March 6, 1874. Amos BENTON, aged 76 years, less 7 days, of
partial paralysis of the lower extremeties followed by
erysipelas of the face and delirium. Duration of sickness had
been five days. Mr. Benton was a good man and a good
neighbor, who had a large circle of friends that now mourn
their loss. We shall not see him again on earth with that
smile and extended hand, but have hope and assurance from the
host of witnesses now on the stand, that though a man is said
to die, yet he still lives, and we shall again join hands
with our brother on that other shore, where sickness, sorrow,
parting of friends and dear ones are not known.

Additional Information: John LANGSTON, late residence about
three miles northwest of S. Marys, departed this life,
December 18, 1878, in the 48th year of his age. The deceased
had a severe attack of fever during the fall, but had become
convalescent and seemed in a fair way to recover his health
entirely. On Friday the 12th inst. he was out of the house
part of the day, on Saturday, in the absence of his wife, he
started towards the woods in search of some stray stock, this
was in the morning. Late in the day parties went in search of
him . He body was found about forty rods from the home,
partially in the water. The spirit had departed unto God who
had given it. There seemed to have been no struggle in his
death as the ground bore no indications of being disturbed.
The countenance bore no marks of inward struggle, all seemed
at peace, as if having fallen asleep. A family of a wife and
four children, remain to feel most keenly the loss of a
departed husband and father, and the neighborhood of a
christian gentleman.

Additional Information: Died of consumption on Thursday 8th
inst. Rev. J. JACKSON, Pastor of Baptist Church of this
place. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church of
Sabbath morning and the body buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Bro.
SPENCER of Ada, O. preached the funeral discourse at Mr. J's
own request, the two having been intimate friends from
boyhood. The congregation was very large, many persons being
obliged to stand during the services. Mr. Jackson has for
years been pastor of the church here and by his consistant
earnest christian character won for himself the respect of
all our people. He has been in feeble health for some time,
not being able to hold services, but part of the time
insisting upon it, and while not really able to be out of his
house, His zeal exceeded his powers. From Rev. Spencers
remarks, we gather the following Mr. J. was born in Warren
County , O. Sept 18th 1825, being at his death in his 49th
year. At the commencement of his ministry being poor in this
world's goods, he taught school for his support, and walked
nine miles to his place of service. This he did for years,
without charge. He had been preaching some 28 years, and died
in hope of reward given to the good and faithful servant.

occupation. In addition, he followed the profession of
carpentry and water well drilling. He was raised in the faith
of the First German Evangelical Reformed Church. He served as
