"W. L. GRIFFITH was born in or near the town of Butler, Georgia in
1847; and
died at the old homestead April 28, 1891. Brother GRIFFITH began his
ministry in
Georgia. He was transferred to the North Texas Conference in 1880, and
in 1881
traveled the Sulfur Bluff Circuit; in 1882, the Winnsboro Circuit; in
1883-84,
the Kingston Circuit. He was then transferred to the West Texas
Conference, and
for three years traveled the Blanco Circuit, doing very efficient work.
In 1887
he traveled the Lagato Circuit, and then the Wealder and Moulton
Circuit. The
writer was present when he entered thr North Texas Conference. It was
apparent
then that he was consumptive, and it was hoped this climate would
restore him.
But it was not to be. Notwithstanding his ill health, he was an
aggressive man,
an earnest preacher, and his life was an epistle of the gospel he
preached.
During the summer of 1890 it was apparent to all that his work was
done. At the
ensuing Conference, he was granted a superannuated relation, and he
went back to
die among the hills of Georgia. He died in the full triumph of the
gospel he
preached, leaving behind a large family to mourn his passing."
